Job Title: Pathologists’ Assistant, travel
Job Location: St. Louis, MO
Term: April 20th (or before), 13 week assignment
Schedule: Monday-Friday, day shift

Pay: Weekly pay: $3,300 – $3,700 based on experience and credentials (includes Meals and incidentals and lodging tax free!)

Travel support options (your choice):
  • Option 1: Use your own vehicle and receive an extra $125/week (tax-free) for wear & tear plus reimbursement for mileage (up to 1500 miles) to get to/from St. Louis.
  • Option 2: NLS will provide a rental car and roundtrip airfare

Qualifications:
  • ASCP certified Pathologists’ Assistant
  • Up to date CME required for credentialing process
  • Experience in an academic setting with complex resections, 5 years preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform gross examination and dissection of complex surgical specimens, including but not limited to Whipple procedures, liver resections (e.g., hepatectomies), soft tissue sarcomas, complex ENT resections, and other high-acuity oncology cases.
  • Accurately describe, section, and submit tissue for histologic evaluation, ensuring compliance with institutional protocols and CAP/CLIA regulations.
  • Exercise independent judgment and critical thinking in prioritizing and triaging complex specimens while maintaining high-quality standards under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Collaborate closely with pathologists and surgical teams to clarify clinical information, guide specimen handling, and ensure optimal diagnostic yield.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of anatomic pathology best practices, including tumor staging protocols, gross photography, and specimen tracking.
  • Assist in maintaining workflow efficiency in a high-volume, high-complexity surgical pathology environment.
  • Serve as a mentor and resource for junior staff or trainees, offering guidance in grossing technique and specimen handling for complex cases.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, including grossing peer review, protocol updates, and documentation audits.
  • Utilize and troubleshoot laboratory systems (e.g., voice dictation, LIS, barcoding systems) with precision and accuracy.
  • Uphold strict adherence to laboratory safety, infection control, and biohazard protocols in all aspects of specimen handling.
