Job Summary:
The Patent Attorney/Agent will work under the supervision of the VP, Corporate IP Technology and will provide legal guidance to support the company’s business and research activities. This role will work with the rest of the patent team and together with our R&D teams to assist in the preparation and development of patent applications to protect the company’s Intellectual Property. This includes performing prior art searches; identifying patentable inventions; assisting worldwide patent prosecutions; securing high quality patents; developing patent strategies, and working with the R&D organization to understand priorities and challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage the intake of invention disclosures and review disclosures for patentability, novelty, and non-obviousness
Perform prior art searching
Evaluate qualification and applicability of prior art
Investigate inventorship issues
Draft new patent applications
Prosecute US and foreign patent applications
Other responsibilities and key result areas will be assigned as required
Qualifications:
Demonstrated at least five years of experience focusing on patent drafting, filing and prosecuting patent applications
Strong understanding of both chemistry and physics and their use in electronic devices
Experience using a variety of search engines and databases, for example, SciFinder, USPTO, WIPO, EPO database systems, etc.
Creative and diligent literature searching skills
Ability to work independently and proactively with minimal direction
Ability to connect scientific details of research projects with patentability considerations;
Strong organizational skills, keen attention to detail, and ability to prioritize projects and meet deadlines
Strong writing and presentation skills
Dual degrees in Chemistry and either Physics or Electrical Engineering, and possess an MS or PhD in at least one of these areas. Extensive expertise in OLED device technology or a closely related discipline is required
