Part-Time Senior Accountant (Flexible, High-Impact Role)

About the Opportunity

Join a growing startup at a pivotal stage where your work will truly make an impact. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on Senior Accountant who enjoys building processes, improving systems, and bringing clarity to a fast-moving environment.

In this role, you won’t just maintain the books—you’ll help shape the accounting function from the ground up. You’ll take ownership of key financial processes, partner with leadership, and play a meaningful role in scaling the business.

If you enjoy variety, autonomy, and the ability to influence how things are done, this role offers the best of both worlds: flexibility with meaningful responsibility.

What You’ll Do

Own the Month-End Close

  • Lead a streamlined monthly close process (2-week timeline)
  • Prepare and post journal entries (payroll, accruals, amortization, etc.)
  • Maintain prepaid and fixed asset schedules
  • Support quarterly revenue recognition (including grant-related reporting)
  • Deliver accurate monthly and quarterly financial reports
  • Collaborate with external accountants, auditors, and tax partners

Manage Procure-to-Pay & Accounts Payable

  • Process ~100 invoices/month, including PO matching (2- and 3-way)
  • Oversee the AP inbox and ensure timely routing, coding, and approvals
  • Handle complex invoices (service + construction-related)
  • Run weekly payments and maintain strong vendor relationships
  • Help bring structure to procurement and purchasing workflows

Drive Process Improvements & System Enhancements

  • Identify inefficiencies and streamline workflows (especially P2P)
  • Improve integration between systems (ADP + QuickBooks Online)
  • Build and document scalable accounting processes and controls
  • Automate manual tasks and reduce risk of errors
  • Partner with leadership to support growth and operational scale

What Your Day Might Look Like

  • Reviewing and processing invoices in the AP queue
  • Reconciling bank, credit card, and balance sheet accounts
  • Updating schedules (prepaids, fixed assets, amortization)
  • Supporting weekly payment runs
  • Preparing grant-related cost tracking reports
  • Contributing to month-end close and ongoing system improvements

What You Bring

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (or equivalent experience)
  • Strong experience with procure-to-pay and AP workflows
  • Experience working with cloud-based accounting systems
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset

Nice to Have

  • Startup or high-growth company experience
  • Experience with P2P tools or system implementations
  • Exposure to government grants or cost tracking
  • Experience with construction or service-based billing environments

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Part-time flexibility with meaningful ownership
  • Opportunity to build and improve processes, not just follow them
  • High visibility and direct collaboration with leadership
  • A chance to make a real impact in a growing company

Who Thrives Here

You’re someone who enjoys rolling up your sleeves and figuring things out. You like bringing order to ambiguity, improving how things work, and balancing day-to-day execution with bigger-picture thinking.

If you’re looking for a flexible role where you can add value, build structure, and see the direct results of your work, this is a great fit.
