Part-Time Senior Accountant

About the Opportunity
Our client, an early‑stage startup building its accounting foundation, is seeking a Senior Accountant to bring structure, accuracy, and operational discipline to a rapidly evolving environment. This Senior Accountant will own key components of the monthly close, manage a high‑volume procure‑to‑pay workflow, and lead process improvements that strengthen scalability as the business grows.

Key Responsibilities
Month‑End Close
In this role, the Senior Accountant will:
• Execute a light but time‑sensitive monthly close within a two‑week cycle.
• Record payroll, labor allocations, amortization, and recurring journal entries.
• Maintain prepaid and fixed asset schedules.
• Support quarterly revenue recognition for a government grant.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements and internal reporting.
• Provide supporting schedules and documentation for external accountants, auditors, and tax preparers.
Accounts Payable & Procure‑to‑Pay
• Process approximately 100 invoices per month, with ~70% requiring 2‑ or 3‑way PO matching.
• Review the AP inbox daily and ensure timely invoice routing and coding.
• Manage service and construction contract invoices, including resolving rogue procurement issues.
• Support procure‑to‑pay workflow
• Perform weekly payment runs and maintain vendor relationships.
Process Improvement & Systems Integration
• Assess and streamline the current procure‑to‑pay workflow, which is partially implemented and inconsistent.
• Improve integration between ADP and QuickBooks Online.
• Strengthen accounting controls, documentation, and standard operating procedures.
• Identify opportunities to automate manual tasks and reduce errors.
• Partner with leadership to build scalable accounting processes as the company grows.

Day‑to‑Day
The Senior Accountant will:
• Check the AP inbox daily, process invoices, and complete PO matching.
• Reconcile bank, credit card, and balance sheet accounts.
• Update prepaid, fixed asset, and amortization schedules.
• Prepare cost reporting tied to a government grant.
• Support weekly AP cycles and monthly close deliverables.
• Drive improvements across several platform integrations.

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent in progressive accounting work experience
• Strong experience with procure‑to‑pay workflows and commercial contracts.
• Hands‑on experience with cloud accounting platforms and process improvement or systems integration
• Proficiency in Excel

Preferred Qualifications
• Prior experience in a startup or high‑growth environment.
• Experience with P2P tools.
• Exposure to government grants or cost‑tracking requirements, construction or service‑based contract billing.

Who Thrives Here
A successful Senior Accountant in this environment is hands‑on, detail‑oriented, and energized by building structure where processes are still forming. This Senior Accountant will be a proactive partner to operations and leadership, balancing daily AP execution with month‑end responsibilities and ongoing improvement initiatives.

MaxSalary: USD100000
