Part Time Controller – with AMAZING Non-profit!

  • The Controller will report to the Executive Director who is skilled in nonprofit organizations and has a demonstrated history of excellent leadership.

Part Time Controller Responsibilities:

Finance and Accounting Leadership

  • Monitor and manage expenses to ensure effective use of assets
  • Oversee financial controls and integrity of accounting system and data
  • Lead annual budget development in partnership with Executive Director
  • Foster an efficient and effective finance department, including oversight of finance
  • manager
  • Review financial reports and help non-technical audiences, including board and
  • executive staff, to understand organization’s financial health and implications of
  • financial decisions
  • Oversee bookkeeping including maintenance of the general ledger, accounts payable,
  • accounts receivable and payroll
  • Engage with auditors for completion of audit and tax processes
  • Manage cash flow and forecasting and assess financial strategies for programs and
  • operations
  • Monitor grant and contract reporting and release of temporarily restricted funds
  • Review contract invoices and payroll reports
  • Assist with the preparation of budgets for funding and grant applications
  • Review proposed changes to benefits to ensure conformity with budget
  • Review, revise, and maintain internal accounting policies and procedures
  • Oversee donor management system and acknowledgements
  • Ensure that all tax requirements of the organization are met
  • Audit payroll functions to ensure accuracy, provide required oversight of the process.

Team Leadership

  • Leverage strengths of the current finance team members, help to clarify roles and responsibilities and develop and implement training programs in order to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals.
  • Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization; create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • BA/BS in Accounting; MBA or CPA a plus
  • Demonstrated knowledge of US GAAP, accounting systems and accounting software is required
  • Results oriented and excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Commitment to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion at the individual, organizational, and systems level
  • Nonprofit experience is a plus, not required
