Join us. **Job Description** We are seeking an experienced **Public Works Inspector** to support **highway, bridge, and rail transportation projects** in Orange, CA or Los Angeles, CA on a **part-time or on-call basis** . The inspector will monitor construction activities to ensure work is performed in accordance with **project plans, specifications, safety requirements, and applicable public works standards** . This role requires field experience inspecting transportation infrastructure projects and the ability to document contractor work, identify issues, and coordinate with project engineers and contractors to maintain quality and compliance. **Key Responsibilities** + Perform field inspections of **highway, bridge, and/or rail construction activities** to verify compliance with approved plans, specifications, and contract requirements. + Observe and document contractor work including **grading, concrete placement, structural components, drainage, utilities, track work, and related infrastructure** . + Monitor construction materials and workmanship to ensure compliance with **project specifications and applicable standards** . + Prepare **daily inspection reports** , field notes, and photographic documentation of construction progress. + Coordinate with project engineers, contractors, and project managers to resolve field issues. + Verify quantities of installed work and assist with documentation for progress payments if required. + Identify potential safety concerns or non-conforming work and report findings to project management. + Attend project meetings and coordinate with project stakeholders as needed. **Qualifications** **Required Qualifications** + HS + 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education. + MVR check required. **Preferred Qualifications** + 8+ years of experience inspecting **public works construction projects** , preferably in **highway, bridge, or rail infrastructure** . + Working knowledge of **construction plans, specifications, and inspection procedures** for transportation projects. + Experience preparing **daily reports and field documentation** . + Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications. + Strong attention to detail and communication skills. + Ability to travel to project sites and work outdoors in varying field conditions. + Experience with **Caltrans Standard Specifications and Standard Plans** . + Experience working in an active railroad environment. + PE License in State of California. + Experience with **rail or transit infrastructure projects** . + Familiarity with **construction management or inspection software** used for field reporting. **Additional Information** Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location.
