Our client, an Austin area law firm, has a great opportunity available for an experienced Litigation Paralegal to join their team. The Paralegal assists the attorneys through all phases of case management, including complex fact investigations, witness interviews, legal research, and drafting, database management, trial preparation, and courtroom attendance to ensure seamless, top-tier client service. The team takes a proactive and practical approach to business counsel, with proven skills in the legal disciplines of construction, real estate, corporate, employment, creditors rights, litigation, and arbitration.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Prepare draft pleadings and motions.
  • Develop ESI plans for preservation, collection, processing, review, and production.
  • Prepare litigation hold and data preservation documents.
  • Review case documents and draft ESI protocols and ESI orders for attorney review and negotiations with opposing counsel.
  • Interface with clients (e.g., project personnel, management, and IT personnel) to obtain information and to collect documents and electronically stored information (ESI).
  • Coordinate with vendor ingesting client documents into review platform.
  • Prepare written discovery requests and responses.
  • Prepare nonparty discovery requests such as subpoenas and public records requests.
  • Prepare and maintain written discovery requests and responses chart.
  • Review client documents for responsiveness, confidentiality, and privilege.
  • Prepare privilege logs.
  • Manage incoming document productions and non-party records including drafting and maintaining production logs.
  • Develop document review plans, including document review protocol, issue tags and review strategy.
  • Manage outgoing client document productions including coordinating with review platform vendor.
  • Perform searches in platform to identify and export documents requested by attorneys and experts.
  • Organize and analyze production documents, including management of document review platform.
  • Identify and compile potential exhibits for depositions.
  • Prepare and maintain deposition logs including monitoring status of errata sheets.
  • Prepare deposition summaries.
  • Interface with experts, as directed by attorney.
  • Prepare and maintain Expert Logs.
  • Coordinate preparing various trial and arbitration notebooks with legal assistants.
  • Assist with preparing deposition page/line designations.
  • Identify, organize, and prepare trial and arbitration exhibits including drafting exhibit list.
  • Prepare demonstrative exhibits.
  • Prepare trial and arbitration witness subpoenas.
  • Handle exhibits at trial or arbitration, including use of trial presentation software.
  • Analyze documentary evidence, including preparation of chronological and
  • timelines.
  • Analyze and prepare liens and bond claims.
  • Prepare notice and demand letters.
  • Conduct internet-based research regarding witnesses, parties and third parties.
  • Interface with consultants and vendors such as forensics consultants, investigators, jury consultants, court reporters, copy services and e-discovery consultants.
  • Prepare witness files (documents, summaries, questions) and witness notebooks.
  • Assist in preparing for mediation, including mediation and settlement conference
  • presentations as well as assisting with drafting damages spreadsheets.
  • Post judgment work, including asset searches, post-judgment discovery, garnishment, levy and attachment papers, releases, motions, and orders.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5 years of paralegal litigation experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate preferred.
  • Significant, relevant legal experience may be considered as a substitute for formal education.
  • Experience filing in Federal and State trial and appellate courts required.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer proficiency in all Microsoft products, Lexis/Westlaw, report writing, and database maintenance.
  • Trial experience.
  • Experience with trail software is preferred (e.g., Trial Director).
  • Experience with e-discovery platform (e.g., Reveal).
  • Construction litigation experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to interact in a professional, collaborative, and courteous manner with clients and employees at all times.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required for frequent interaction with clients.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Ability to successfully perform position requirements with excellent organizational, time-management and prioritization skills required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team; ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to produce work efficiently and accurately.
