Position Overview
Kauffman Eye Care is seeking a skilled and motivated Ophthalmic Technician to join our busy and growing ophthalmology practice on the east side of Indianapolis. This full-time position supports Dr. Chad Kauffman and plays an essential role in delivering high-quality patient care in a fast-paced clinical environment.
The Ophthalmic Technician assists the ophthalmologist by performing clinical testing, collecting patient data, administering treatments as directed, and ensuring efficient patient flow throughout the practice. Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:45 AM – 5:00 PM
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Clinical Testing:
- Escort patients to exam rooms and prepare them for evaluation
- Obtain comprehensive patient histories, including medical and ocular history
- Explain procedures and testing to patients
- Perform diagnostic testing including visual acuity, refraction, visual fields, tonometry, OCT, pachymetry, and photography
- Assist physicians with laser and minor surgical procedures
- Perform accurate documentation in the electronic health record
- Perform scribing duties when needed
Patient Flow & Communication:
- Assist with patient triage and workflow coordination
- Answer patient calls regarding prescriptions and care questions -
- Coordinate with physicians and staff to ensure efficient patient care
Equipment & Administrative Support:
- Maintain and clean clinical equipment
- Prepare exam rooms and testing equipment prior to clinic sessions
- Monitor supply levels and assist with inventory management
- Confirm patient appointments and assist with recall systems
- Cross-train to assist with front desk duties as needed
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
- Strong attention to detail
- Computer proficiency and ability to work in electronic medical records
- Professional demeanor and team-oriented attitude
Preferred:
- 2–5 years of ophthalmic technician experience
- Certification (COA, COT, or equivalent), or willingness to pursue certification
