POSITION: Operator IIA, Operator IIB/Equipment Operator DUTIES: - Operates and maintains light, medium, and heavy equipment including trucks and other trucks over 1 T capacity; loads sand, gravel, and other construction and maintenance materials - Operates front end loader, backhoes, dozers, and related equipment - Uses a variety of hand and power tools; performs minor repairs to equipment used; removes snow and sands roads; - Installs and removes fences - May work as a helper performing work in field maintenance and mechanical repair and other carpentry; performs related duties. - Prepares minimal records of own activities; supervises and uses equipment or materials requiring care to assure against breakdown; contact with others is incidental to performance of duties, requiring common courtesy and relating information; duties involve substantial physical involvement; work is frequently performed in undesirable physical conditions of extreme noise, heat or cold and dampness. REQUIREMENTS: - Must have knowledge and experience in proper techniques for installation and maintenance of culverts, cattle guards and fences. - Must have a good understanding of proper procedures for building and maintaining of roads and bridges. - May supervise small crews when required. - High School Diploma or GED equivalent. - Two years of responsible experience in the operation of small trucks and light equipment in construction, maintenance or related activities is preferred. - Possession of a valid Colorado Driver's License is required at date of hire. - A DMV report will also be required if interviewed. - New hires will be required to take a drug test and physical as a prerequisite to employment. - Must have possession of and ability to maintain a DOT Medical Certificate. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: - Ability to operate heavy equipment and a motor vehicle. - May be required to lift, carry, drag, or push boxes or equipment up to 50 pounds or more. Must be able to pull open a truck's hood and other equipment requiring 100 pounds or more of force. - May be required to stoop, bend, stretch, twist, reach, kneel, squat and balance. Must be able to get into and out of vehicle/heavy equipment. - Must be able to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time. Must be able to work in a day light and night environment. - Must be able to work outdoors in an extreme hot, cold, dry or wet environment. - Must be able to work in hazardous or dangerous work areas or situations. Must be capable of working under stressful situations. - Must have ability to concentrate on more than one task at a time and to make independent decisions. Must have appropriate voice skills to be clearly understood on the telephone, radio and in public contacts. - Must have good cognitive skills and awareness of work accuracy. - Must wear safety boots, hardhat, safety glasses and any other safety clothing when working conditions require such an item. - Must also enforce the same for workers under foreman's supervision. PREFERRED SKILLS: Follow verbal and written instructions. Read, interpret and apply written directives including manual provisions. Read, write and speak to communicate effectively in U.S. English per 49 C.F.R. Section 391.11(b)(2). Work independently in the absence of supervision including making independent decisions. Respond appropriately to public inquiries and complaints. Apply effective problem-solving skills in a variety of circumstances. Demonstrate effective interpersonal communication skills. Apply effective customer service skills in a variety of circumstances. WAGE: Operator IIA: $21.50 per hour. Operator IIB: $19.84. per hour.
