The Role
We are looking for a hands-on Coating Applications leader to own and optimize coating processes across the operation. This role blends process engineering, production leadership, and customer-facing technical support.
You will play a critical role in ensuring coatings are applied efficiently, safely, and in compliance with strict industry standards while driving continuous improvement across the department.
What You’ll Be Doing
Lead daily operations within the coating applications department, including cost, schedule, and performance management
Develop, improve, and standardize coating processes (paints, primers, dry film lubricants, chemical conversion coatings)
Own process planning and quoting for new and existing work
Troubleshoot coating issues and implement corrective actions quickly and effectively
Read blueprints and develop detailed process instructions and masking techniques
Design tooling and fixtures to improve throughput and quality
Conduct process testing and validation to ensure performance and compliance
Provide hands-on training and mentorship to technicians
Partner with customers on technical questions, estimates, and project execution
Support QA/QC efforts and participate in audits, including NADCAP
Drive safety initiatives and perform routine safety audits
What We’re Looking For
10–12+ years of coating applications experience
OR
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering Technology, or similar + 2+ years of experience
Strong experience with:
Paints, primers, and dry film lubricants
Chemical film / conversion coatings
Process control and documentation
Blueprint reading and masking techniques
Experience in aerospace, defense, or other regulated manufacturing environments strongly preferred
Exposure to NADCAP or similar quality systems is a big plus
Proven ability to lead teams, solve problems, and drive process improvements
Nice to Have
Experience with process audits and compliance environments
Background in continuous improvement or lean manufacturing
Customer-facing technical experience (quoting, project scoping, etc.)
