The Operations Director, Subrogation provides strategic leadership and oversight for all subrogation operations, driving performance, innovation, and long-term growth. This position is responsible for driving operational performance, ensuring high-quality outcomes for clients, managing cross-functional teams, and aligning people, processes, and technology to support organizational and client objectives. Working in close, daily partnership with the Subrogation COE Director, the role focuses on ideation, support, and execution of continuous improvement initiatives tied to recovery outcomes, operational efficiencies, and KPI/SLA performance. The Director partners cross-functionally and with external stakeholders to deliver scalable, data-driven solutions that enhance efficiency, quality, and client satisfaction. *Position is hybrid in our Bloomington, IL office.*

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic direction for the subrogation function, aligning departmental goals with broader organizational objectives.
  • Lead the development and execution of short- and long-term operational strategies to drive performance, scalability, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner daily with the COE Director to drive the ideation, prioritization, and execution of continuous improvement initiatives across subrogation operations.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate operational effectiveness, financial performance, and client outcomes.
  • Identify risks and opportunities, proactively implementing solutions to improve efficiency, accuracy, and results.
  • Provide executive oversight of technology strategy related to subrogation processes, partnering with IT and product teams to drive system enhancements and automation.
  • Ensure effective governance and prioritization of system enhancements and process improvements.
  • Oversee the collection, analysis, and interpretation of operational and financial data to support informed decision-making.
  • Leverage data insights to identify trends, optimize performance, and support strategic planning and forecasting.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, internal partners, and external vendors.
  • Partner with stakeholders to align service delivery with evolving client needs and expectations.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and strategic direction to management and staff within the subrogation function.
  • Ensure departmental policies, procedures, and controls are established, documented, and consistently applied.
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, internal standards, and contractual obligations.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 8+ years of claims experience, including a minimum of 2 years focused on subrogation.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a leadership role, including managing multi-functional teams.
  • Experience with budgetary management and P&L responsibilities.
  • Experience leading subrogation operations in a BPO, managed care, or insurance services environment preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of consumer/insurance subrogation processes.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and a demonstrated ability to learn and leverage new technology tools.
  • Experience with modern project management tools, data analytics platforms, and process automation software.
