Onboarding Specialist (Part-Time)
Greater Waterbury, CT Area
Schedule: 20 hours/week (onsite)
Compensation: $25 – $33/hour
Overview
A growing organization in the Greater Waterbury area is seeking a detail-oriented Onboarding Specialist to support the new hire experience from offer acceptance through first day readiness. This role is critical in ensuring a smooth, compliant, and efficient onboarding process, particularly in a regulated environment where accuracy and timeliness are essential.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full onboarding lifecycle from offer acceptance through first day readiness
- Initiate and track background checks, ensuring timely completion and resolution of any discrepancies
- Verify and maintain employee licensure, certifications, and credentials in compliance with regulatory requirements
- Ensure completion and accuracy of all pre-employment documentation, including I-9s, tax forms, and compliance-related paperwork
- Communicate onboarding requirements clearly to new hires and provide ongoing support throughout the process
- Partner with HR, Compliance, and hiring managers to resolve onboarding and credentialing issues
- Maintain accurate employee records within HRIS and internal tracking systems
- Monitor expiration dates of licenses and certifications; coordinate renewals as needed
- Ensure adherence to all federal, state, and organizational compliance standards
- Generate onboarding, credentialing, and compliance-related reports as needed
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred
- 2–4 years of experience in HR, onboarding, credentialing, or compliance-related roles
- Experience managing background checks and employment verification processes
- Familiarity with licensure and certification tracking, preferably within a regulated environment
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in healthcare, education, or other regulated industries
- Knowledge of employment laws and onboarding compliance requirements
- HR certification such as SHRM-CP or PHR
