Job Details

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department for non-profit clients, including monthly and end-year processes, accounts payable/receivable, cash receipts, general ledger, treasury, budgeting, cash forecasting, revenue and expenditure variance analysis, capital assets reconciliations, check runs, fixed asset activity, debt activity, etc.
  • Conduct thorough financial audits for non-profit clients to ensure compliance with laws and regulations, accuracy in accounting, and efficiency in operations.
  • Perform detailed financial analysis and research, including reviewing financial statements, evaluating financial performance, and identifying trends or issues that may impact the financial health of non-profit organizations.
  • Develop and implement effective financial strategies, controls, systems and procedures that align with the goals of the non-profit clients.
  • Prepare and present clear and concise financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Collaborate with non-profit leadership to develop budgets, financial plans, and forecasts.
  • Provide guidance on cost reduction, revenue enhancement, and profit maximization strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP principles.
  • Liaise with tax accountants to ensure accurate and timely tax planning and compliance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. CPA or MBA is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in non-profit accounting or a related field.
  • Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and government regulations.
  • Proven experience with financial audits, accounting operations, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Proficient in using accounting software and experience with a software system implementation a plus.
  • Exceptional skills in data analysis, research, and financial forecasting.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a client-focused approach.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
  • A passion for non-profit work and an understanding of the unique financial challenges and opportunities within this sector.
