Description

  • Reviews construction plans, geotechnical reports, and project specifications to determine the scope of excavation, grading, utilities, and site development work.
  • Calculates cut-and-fill quantities, material needs, trucking, labor, and equipment costs using takeoff software and field knowledge.
  • Prepares detailed cost estimates, budgets, and bid proposals for site work and earthwork projects.
  • Evaluates project risks, soil conditions, site constraints, and constructability to ensure accurate and competitive pricing.
  • Collaborates with engineers, project managers, and subcontractors to obtain pricing, confirm assumptions, and refine estimates.
  • Tracks market pricing for materials, equipment, and labor to ensure estimates reflect current conditions.
  • Knowledge using HCSS Heavy Bid is preferred.

Profile

  • Possesses strong technical knowledge of excavation, grading, utilities, stormwater systems, and general site development practices.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in quantity takeoff software and civil design tools (e.g., Bluebeam, Agtek, Civil 3D).
  • Has a solid understanding of interpreting civil drawings, specifications, and geotechnical reports.
  • Applies practical field experience or strong constructability awareness to produce accurate and realistic estimates.
  • Communicates clearly with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and clients to gather information and validate assumptions.
  • Shows strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to identify risks, scope gaps, and cost drivers.
  • Manages deadlines effectively and thrives in a fast‑paced bidding environment with multiple concurrent projects.
  • Stays current with local market pricing, production rates, and industry standards to ensure competitive and reliable bids.
