The Mill/Crushing operator is responsible for performing tasks associated with the crushing process.


Shift: 2:15pm to 10:45pm

Compensation: $21.46/hour


Responsibilities:


+ This position requires teamwork with the other operators.

+ Must have a complete understanding of all tasks and areas of responsibilities as listed on the Training/Upgrade Sheets and maintain high quality standards.

+ Must adhere to all company and MSHA safety policies and procedures while performing the crushing operator tasks and at all times when on the premises.

+ Must have good attendance.

+ Maintain proper gradation while optimizing crushing to produce maximum amount of tons per hour (TPH) while minimizing waste.

+ Monitor and replace worn parts and screens to maximize usage and prevent downtime.

+ Be prepared to fix problems while running the plant.

+ Keep designated area clean.

+ Understand the importance of a representative sample for a gradation

+ Load/bag slate flour

+ Perform daily, weekly, and monthly routine maintenance checks on all equipment (Elevators, Belts, Crushers & Oilers, Baghouses, Screens, etc.)

+ Be able to run the rock breaker at the mill

+ Prime the river pump for mill start up

+ Perform routine maintenance on ductwork, chutes, hoppers, screw conveyors, etc.

+ Reset 2 belt after metal detector shuts it off

+ Monitor and manage screen cloth replacement as needed

+ Keep designated areas clean along with areas of high build up; such as under the 5 Belt and under the return rollers from any given belt

+ Tasked with helping load and unload granule and slate flour trucks when needed

+ Knowledge of how to reset motor starters when necessary

+ Forklift & skid steer operations along with floor sweeper and backhoe. Wheel loader operation is a plus.

+ Housekeeping duties

+ Follow all safety precautions while performing tasks at all times

+ All areas are to be clean and clear of any debris before/after maintenance days and holidays

+ Gensuite participation – conduct required SMAT Audits in accordance with plant goals and objectives

+ Report all EH&S incidents – Injuries, Near Misses, First Aid, Environmental and Property/Equipment Damage

+ Ensure adherence to Waste Management and Recycling responsibilities

+ Participate in Incident & Near Miss Investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions

+ Participate in the development, understanding and review of all position JSA’s, all other duties as assigned.


Requirements:


+ High School Diploma or GED plus a minimum of two (2) years of manufacturing experience.

+ In addition, problem solving skills and mechanical aptitude are required.

+ Welding skills are preferred in order to perform required routine maintenance when not running production.

+ Communication skills must be at a high level in order to clearly communicate issues/problems of the process.

+ Interfacing with a computerized process monitoring system requires knowledge and skills in areas of computer navigation.

+ The position requires the ability to use software, such as SAP, to ship trucks in and out.


Ability to work an average of 40 hours per week, speak clearly so others understand, vision acuity for this position include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color acuity. Acceptance of criticism and dealing calmly and effectively with high stress situations, sensitivity to other’s needs, and positive demeanor. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to wear a respirator, sit, talk, walk, climb stairs and ladders, and lift up to 70 lb. The employee is occasionally required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. This job requires shift hours.


ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Manufacturing plant is not temperature controlled; dust, fumes, and high noise areas are present inside plant areas. Manufacturing processes involve crushed rock, granules and slate oil. Noise levels exceed 80 dB in some areas of the site. Moving equipment such as haul trucks, front end loaders, forklifts, skid steer loaders, man lifts, cranes and industrial sweepers travel throughout the facility, sometimes in congested areas.
