Princeton Day School is seeking an experienced and dynamic Middle School Library Specialist to lead a vibrant library for students and faculty. This role champions a love of reading, sparks curiosity, and empowers student learning through guided inquiry. As a key member of the Middle School faculty, the Library Specialist fosters a joyful and inclusive space at the heart of the school community.
This position is ideal for a collaborative leader who excels at integrating technology and curating collections that reflect diverse voices. The Library Specialist actively contributes to Middle School life, ensuring students are prepared to inquire, read, and use information ethically.
For this position, the ideal candidate is expected to:
- Collaborate with faculty to design and implement inquiry-based learning experiences that develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Partner across disciplines to integrate research, literacy, and technology into engaging lessons.
- Inspire a love of reading through readers' advisory, book talks, personalized recommendations, and student-centered displays.
- Lead the integration of library and technology resources to support teaching and learning.
- Develop and maintain a diverse, inclusive library collection that affirms student identity and promotes belonging.
- Oversee library spaces, collections, budgets, and staff with a focus on equity and accessibility.
Qualifications and Personal Attributes:
- ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent advanced degree
- Experience in school library services with an emphasis on inquiry-based learning
- Proven collaborator and instructional partner, committed to diverse and inclusive literature
- Familiarity with AASL Standards and a reflective approach to professional growth
- Proficiency with library management systems and educational technologies, with the ability to lead and integrate tools thoughtfully in support of teaching, learning, and ethical information use.
- Commitment to professional growth and staying current with library and technology trends
Compensation Range: $66,500 - $107,000 a year (this role is on PDS' faculty salary scale and is eligible for benefits)
