Position Type: 6 month contract with additional opportunity contingent upon performance and continued business need

Shift: 8AM-4:30PM

Microbiologist – Quality Control
The Microbiologist will support the Rochester Laboratory in a manufacturing setting, performing routine microbiological testing and ensuring accurate, timely documentation of results in compliance with quality systems and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Follow, update, and review quality control laboratory documentation.
- Perform facility and laboratory sampling in accordance with established QC protocols.
- Conduct microbiology testing of raw materials, intermediates, and final products for release to production in a timely and accurate manner.
- Release products through the SAP Quality Management module using internal and external results.
- Interpret microbiological test results and accurately document findings.
- Troubleshoot and perform QC testing for non-conforming products.
- Communicate QC results clearly to plant staff and management.
- Support Operations and Engineering teams with QC testing requests, efficiently prioritizing as needed.
- Participate in team meetings to align on scheduling and priorities.
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in the care, handling, and storage of food products, and report any violations.
- Apply HACCP philosophy and procedures in daily work.
- Adhere to Good Documentation Practices, Good Laboratory Practices, and aseptic techniques.
- Comply with company policies related to Quality, Safety, Food/Feed Safety, Environmental, GMPs, Dietary Supplements, and HACCP-HARPC.
- Maintain adherence to ISO 22000 Food Safety, FAMI-QS, and NSF Dietary Supplements standards, and align with corporate quality policies and procedures.
- Complete training and perform qualified individual tasks according to the site’s Food/Feed Safety Plan.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Microbiology, or related field, or 1–2 years of relevant work experience (preferred).
- Ability to determine appropriate tests for raw materials and products.
- Skilled in sample preparation, culturing, and microbiological analysis.
- Proficient in interpreting test results and maintaining accurate documentation.
- Knowledge of current microbiological methods and microbial identification.
- Strong understanding of Good Laboratory Practices and regulatory compliance.
- Hands-on experience with serial dilutions and microbiological plating techniques.
- Excellent communication skills with strong organizational and prioritization abilities.
- Experience with laboratory documentation and work instructions.
- Effective teamwork and interpersonal skills, with the ability to thrive in a self-directed, collaborative environment.
