Position Summary
The Data Center Project Manager (Mechanical & Electrical) is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of mechanical, electrical, and critical-infrastructure construction projects within the firm’s enterprise data center portfolio. This role manages the full project lifecycle—from scope definition and design coordination through vendor oversight, financial management, commissioning, and operational handover.
Projects focus on the refresh and modernization of existing mechanical and electrical infrastructure across live data center environments in the NY/NJ region. The Project Manager will act as the owner’s representative, partnering with operations teams, engineering, construction vendors, and commissioning service providers to ensure delivery meets performance, compliance, safety, and operational-readiness standards.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Portfolio Delivery
- Serve as primary project lead for assigned MEP and mission-critical infrastructure CAPEX initiatives
- Manage scope, schedule, budget, risks, status reporting, and stakeholder communications
- Develop and maintain project plans, cost forecasts, and risk registers
Vendor & Financial Management
- Lead procurement activities including RFP development, bid evaluation, vendor selection, and contract negotiation
- Manage CAPEX budgets and support vendor payment processes
- Oversee third-party construction managers, MEP consultants, and commissioning agents
Engineering & Operations Coordination
- Coordinate with internal engineering, data center operations, and governance teams
- Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of:
- HVAC systems
- UPS and power distribution (PDUs)
- Generators
- Building controls
- Fire and life-safety systems
Compliance, Safety & Governance
- Ensure adherence to regulatory, safety, and firm governance standards
- Support SLA/KPI commitments and change-management processes
- Maintain project documentation and meeting cadence
Sustainability & Handover
- Support sustainability and certification goals (LEED, WELL, WiredScore, SmartScore) as applicable
- Partner with data center operations to ensure smooth transition into steady-state operations
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field (preferred)
- 5–10+ yearsof experience managing MEP or mission-critical infrastructure projects, ideally within data center environments
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, UPS, generators, PDUs, controls, and commissioning processes
- Proven ability to manage vendors, cross-functional teams, and large CAPEX budgets
- Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder-management skills
- Ability to operate effectively in live, high-availability environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting financial services or other highly regulated environments
- Familiarity with data center sustainability and certification initiatives
- Experience acting as an owner’s representativeon infrastructure projects
