Role Overview
About The Role
We are seeking a Merchandising + Product Development Manager to lead two growing areas of the business:
- Owning merchandising and inventory planning for our Design Shops, ensuring the retail assortment is thoughtfully curated, well-stocked, and positioned for growth as we expand locations across the U.S.
- Developing Schumacher's accessories, such as candles, wrapping paper, holiday stockings, and other giftable branded items.
This role combines product development, merchandising, buying, and vendor management and is ideal for someone who combines strong analytical skills with creative merchandising instincts and thrives in a cross-functional, fast-paced environment.
You will partner closely with Visual Merchandising, Art Department, Finance, Logistics, and local Design Shop teams.
Key Responsibilities
Design Shop Merchandising, Buying & Inventory Planning
- Develop and execute buy plans and merchandising calendars aligned with seasonal launches and business goals
- Analyze sales performance, including sell-through and inventory turn, to inform assortment decisions
- Manage inventory levels across Design Shops locations, including replenishment and new product buys
- Place place purchase orders, track inbound logistics, and manage invoices in partnership with Merchandising Operations Coordinator, Finance, and Logistics
- Negotiate pricing and volume discounts with vendors
- Oversee furniture wholesale relationships and key vendor partnerships
Design Shop New Location & Launch Execution
- Partner with Visual Merchandising and Space Planning teams on hot zones, product placement, and in-store storytelling
- Collaborate with local Design Shop teams on pop-ups and special retail activations
- Execute biannual sales by developing SKU lists, setting pricing and coordinating with Sales and Marketing teams
- Maintain the Design Shop website by launching new products and partnering with Branding and Art teams on homepage updates
Accessories Product Development & Vendor Sourcing
- Identify and develop new accessory product opportunities aligned with brand positioning
- Manage end-to-end product development, including coordinating with designers, quoting, costing, margin targets, and production timelines
- Source, onboard, and manage new vendors and manufacturers
- Place purchase orders in collaboration with Merchandising Operations Coordinator and coordinate inbound logistics in partnership with the Logistics team
- Track revenue and sell-through performance of the accessories assortment
- Build the vendor network and cost structure to support the long-term growth of the category
Requirements
- 3-5 years experience in merchandising, buying, or product development (home or lifestyle preferred)
- Exceptional organizational skills and strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Experience managing vendors, purchase orders, and product timelines
- Strong analytical skills and
- Passion for revenue growth, market expansion, and business strategy.
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Experience with ERP, inventory, or ecommerce systems (Square and Great Plains / SalesPad)
- Interest in interior design, luxury, or start-up environments is a plus.
- Hybrid role with at least 3 days per week in-person at our SoHo corporate office.
