A Brief Overview
Medical language specialist who interprets and transcribes dictation by physicians and healthcare professionals regarding patient assessment, work-up, therapeutic procedures, clinical course, diagnosis, prognosis, etc. in order to document patient care and facilitate delivery of healthcare services.
What you will do
- Transcribes medical dictation into an appropriate format dictated by physicians to provide a permanent record of patient care
- Demonstrates an understanding of the medicolegal implications and responsibilities related to the transcription of patient records to protect the patient and organization
- Operates designated word processing, dictation, and transcription equipment as directed to complete assignments
- Follows policies and procedures to contribute to the efficiency of the medical transcription department
- Expands job-related knowledge and skills to improve performance and adjust to change
- Uses interpersonal skills effectively to build and maintain cooperative working relationships
- Transcribes all patient reports dictated into dictation system by physicians as followed in order of priority (including vascular): History & Physicals, Operative Reports, Consultations, Discharge Summaries, all other
- Verifies master demographics of each patient's name, correct account number, medical record number, and date of birth
- Demonstrates knowledge of anatomy and physiology and medical terminology to interpret dictation
- Answers the telephone in a clear and concise manner, provides information in a courteous and professional manner, and makes corrections/additions, etc. as per request
- Monitors Correction Pool and Error Screen
- Adds standards/templates as requested by physician
- All other duties as assigned
Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
Experience Qualifications
- 5+ years of medical transcription experience required
- Medical background preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Medical terminology, basic anatomy and physiology, medical records systems, hospital policies and procedures
- Word processing in various software/programs
- Positive business demeanor
- Maintains and respects confidentiality
Licenses and Certifications
- MT - Medical Transcriptionist Certification upon hire preferred

Pay Range: $20.00/hour - $27.00/hour
