Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)

Schedule:

Position 1: Monday–Friday, 0700–1530

Position 2: Monday–Friday, 1500–2330

Position Overview:

The MT/MLT performs a full range of clinical laboratory testing to support patient care within the Dayton VA Medical Center. Personnel must demonstrate competency in moderate and high complexity testing, instrumentation, quality control, and regulatory compliance.

Certification Requirements:

Medical Technologist (MT) - Candidates must meet one of the following:

• ASCP BOC or AMT – Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)
• ASCP BOR or AMT – Medical Technologist (MT)
• ASCP or AMT – Categorical or Specialist certification

Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - Candidates must hold one of the following:

• ASCP Board of Certification or ASCP Board of Registry – MLT
• American Medical Technologists (AMT) – MLT
• American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB) – MLT

(Certification must be maintained at all times. If certification lapses, the contractor must immediately remove the individual from duty)

Experience Requirement:

Minimum 24 months (2 years) of recent clinical laboratory experience required for both MTs and MLTs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform moderate and high complexity testing per CLIA and VA standards.
• Operate and maintain laboratory analyzers and instrumentation.
• Perform quality control, calibration, and troubleshooting procedures.
• Validate, interpret, and report laboratory results accurately and promptly.
• Support specimen processing, workflow management, and STAT testing.
• Follow all safety, infection control, and regulatory guidelines.
• Document work in the EMR and laboratory information system (LIS).
• Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure timely and accurate patient care.
