CVP is seeking Medical Technologists to join our team in providing our Nation's Veterans with laboratory services within the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service (PLMS) Department at the Dayton VA Medical Center located at 4100 West Third Street, Dayton, OH 45428. Working hours may include day, evening, and night shifts and will also include weekend rotations. Dayton VAMC is transitioning to a new Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) system, and the Medical Technologists will adapt to this new, modernized digital system as it rolls out.
Responsibilities:
- Perform laboratory testing across multiple specialties (chemistry, hematology, microbiology, blood banking, immunology, urinalysis/body fluids)
- Analyze, verify, and accurately report test results per laboratory protocols
- Meet turnaround time requirements: STAT tests within 60 minutes, routine tests within 4 hours
- Communicate critical results directly to providers within 60 minutes
- Consult with healthcare providers on result interpretation and clinical relevance as needed
- Review delta checks, troubleshoot discrepancies, and contact providers when necessary
- Maintain inventory of reagents and supplies
- Ensure laboratory compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA, and CAP regulatory standards
- Perform and document quality control and preventative maintenance on equipment
- Troubleshoot and resolve equipment/reagent malfunctions
- Maintain accurate documentation of procedures, results, QC, maintenance, and audits
- Follow SOPs and complete proficiency testing with passing scores
- Verify patient and specimen identity using two complete identifiers per protocol
- Complete mandatory education and acknowledge laboratory policies
- Report patient safety events to supervisor within shift and document in medical record
- Cooperate with management during investigations
- Ability to successfully undergo a Government sponsored background investigation (US Citizenship Required)
- Current national certification as a Medical Technologist (MT, MLS, or CLS) given by any of the following organizations:
- Generalist certification as an MT by American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- Categorical certification as an MT by American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- Generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) given by American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- Minimum 2 years of recent experience as a Medical Technologist in chemistry, urinalysis, blood bank, hematology, coagulation, and microbiology
- Knowledge of medical terminology, computer skills, customer service, telephone etiquette, and typing.
- Current and up-to-date continuing education required for maintaining certification
- Knowledge of College of American Pathologists (CAP) and The Joint Commission standards
- Experience working with Veterans and/or VA knowledge preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Visual acuity sufficient to perform microscopic examinations
Shifts:
- Monday – Friday: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
- Monday – Friday: 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM
- Shifts may include overtime and holidays
