Remote Medical Support Assistant

VA Salt Lake City Health Care System (SLCHCS)

Location: Remote (MUST be within commuting area of Salt Lake City, UT)

Work Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM MT (no federal holidays)

Position Overview:

Medical Support Assistants provide administrative and scheduling support to the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System. MSAs serve as the primary point of contact for Veterans seeking appointments, care coordination, and administrative assistance. This role requires strong communication skills, accuracy, professionalism, and adherence to all VA scheduling policies.

**All positions are 100% remote within the commuting area of the facility. 

Primary Work Locations:

  • Health Administration Service (HAS)
  • Office of Community Care (OCC)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the designated scheduler/receptionist for assigned VA clinics and services.
  • Coordinate, schedule, modify, and manage outpatient appointments in accordance with VHA Directive 1230 and all VA scheduling policies.
  • Provide customer service support to Veterans via phone, secure messaging, and electronic systems.
  • Enter, update, and verify patient demographic and insurance information.
  • Utilize VA systems including VistA, CPRS, and other scheduling platforms after completing required access and security training.
  • Maintain accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all scheduling metrics and performance standards.
  • Communicate professionally with Veterans, families, clinical staff, and administrative personnel.
  • Protect patient privacy and comply with HIPAA and VA confidentiality requirements.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Oral and written English proficiency required
  • Basic computer skills and ability to navigate multiple systems
  • Typing speed of at least 50 WPM
  • Basic medical terminology knowledge
  • Minimum 6 months of customer service experience in healthcare

    Work Conditions

    • Remote work within commuting distance of SLCHCS
    • 8‑hour shifts, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM MT
