Medical Records Clerk - Temporary
A healthcare organization is seeking a Medical Records Clerk for temporary support in the medical records department. Under the guidance of the Director of Medical Records, this role manages, organizes, and maintains patient records while handling sensitive and confidential information with accuracy and discretion.
Key Details:
- Pay: $25/hr (paid weekly!)
- Schedule: Monday-Friday 9am-5pm
- Location: New Hyde Park, NY
- Duration of assignment: Around 2 months (potential to be extended)
Medical Records Clerk Responsibilities:
- Code patient admissions and re-admissions according to established coding guidelines.
- Check in discharge charts and follow up on missing records with nursing units.
- Prepare color-coded terminal digit folders and retrieve prior patient charts as needed.
- Maintain accurate transfer and chart location logs.
- Open, sort, and distribute incoming medical records mail.
- Process record requests from physicians and authorized staff.
- Track correspondence and maintain request logs.
- Identify and document deficiencies in medical records for review.
- Retrieve records promptly for in-house and external requests.
- Purge outdated records and prepare them for storage or archiving.
Medical Records Clerk Experience:
- Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
- Understanding of ICD-9-CM coding principles; CCS or CCS-P preferred.
