At Sylva Animal Hospital, experienced veterinarians can receive a customized first-year compensation package totaling up to $200K, based on experience. Choose the structure that fits your goals — higher guaranteed base salary or a larger signing bonus.

 

You’ll also receive production pay, schedule flexibility, true paid time off, and operational support so leadership responsibilities remain focused on medicine and team guidance — not administrative overload.

Your Role as Medical Director

This is a hands-on clinical leadership role. You’ll guide medical standards and support the team while maintaining an active caseload.

You will:

  • Provide medical leadership and uphold care standards

  • Mentor and support associate veterinarians

  • Collaborate with hospital leadership on workflow and protocols

  • Help guide case management and treatment approaches

  • Foster a positive and accountable team culture

  • Continue practicing medicine and surgery

You’ll partner with hospital management for operational responsibilities, allowing you to focus primarily on medical leadership and patient care.

Responsibilities:
  • Examine animals to assess their health and diagnose problems
  • Treat and dress wounds
  • Perform surgery on animals
  • Test for and vaccinate against diseases
  • Operate medical equipment, such as x-ray machines
  • Advise animal owners about general care, medical conditions, and treatments
  • Prescribe medication
  • Work closely in collaboration with team members to provide high quality care
Qualifications:
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree required
  • Licensure in the state/s candidate will be working
  • Ability to show compassion to both pets and their owners
  • Outstanding dexterity in handling animals while performing precise tasks
  • Ability to react quickly and make decisions under pressure about the wellbeing of an animal
  • Strong fondness and understanding of animals
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of animal behavior
  • Ability to use medical technologies during diagnosis, research and surgery of animals
