Summary:

The Float Medical Assistant (MA) is under the clinical supervision of the Licensed Practical Nurse, Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant and/or Physician to deliver care to the patient and assist the health care provider in various locations within the healthcare system. The Float MA collaborates with other health care professionals in providing patient care and assumes clerical duties as assigned. The Float Medical Assistant provides consistent care delivery across various ambulatory settings, following standardized practices and workflows, adaptable to different clinic environments and patient needs. The Float Medical Assistant is exposed to different specialties, providers, and patient populations providing professional growth and skill development

Responsibilities:

EDUCATION
    • Associate's degree or successful completion of an accredited medical assisting program required or three (3) to five (5) years of Medical Assistant experience is required.
    • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within first ninety (90) days of employment
EXPERIENCE
  • Two (2) years of previous Medical Assistant experience required in an ambulatory setting
  • Experience in acute/critical care setting preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
  • Reliable transportation to travel between assigned practices in Erie and Niagara Counties
  • Proficient in computer skills, including the use of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Proficiency in medical terminology
  • Mental and physical health sufficient to withstand strenuous activity, bending, lifting, walking
  • Ability to adapt quickly, learn new processed, and perform effectively in different clinical settings
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work under various practice managers and teams
  • Possesses good organization, communication (written and verbal) and time management skills
  • Experience and knowledge of related office procedures is preferred but not required
WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Travel between practice locations, sometimes with minimal notice, to ensure consistent patient care coverage
  • May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases
  • Occasional exposure to unpleasant patient elements
  • Handles emergency or crisis situations
  • Subject to many interruptions
  • May be exposed to toxic chemicals
  • Work is performed in an office environment with normal light, heat and air
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
