Description

This position is located at the Ponce de Leon Center of Grady Hospital. The Medical Assistant will be the bridge between investigators and study participants, focusing on the safe execution of trials. They ensure participant safety, perform clinical duties like performing in-depth patient assessments, monitoring participants for adverse events, taking, and recording vital signs, drawing blood (phlebotomy), and processing laboratory specimen and maintaining accurate. JOB DETAILS: + Clinical & Patient Care: Performing in-depth patient assessments, taking and recording vital signs, drawing blood (phlebotomy), administering investigational medications, and processing laboratory specimens. + Protocol Adherence: Reviewing and executing study protocols to ensure all procedures are followed exactly. + Documentation & Data Entry: Maintaining accurate, detailed source documents and case report forms (CRFs) in Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems. + Safety Monitoring: Monitoring patients for adverse events (AEs) and serious adverse events (SAEs). + Patient Advocacy: Educating participants on the study process, obtaining informed consent, and answering questions regarding the trial. + Regulatory Support: Assisting with study logs, site visits, and ensuring compliance with Good Clinical Practices (GCP). KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: + Assists in the examination and treatment of patients under a physician's direction. + Obtains vital signs and patient information for inclusion in the patient's medical record. + May give injections or treatments, perform routine laboratory tests under the direction of an attending physician, and assist in other patient care activities such as dressing changes and leg wraps. + Prepares treatment room for examination of patient. + May assist with physical examinations by preparing supplies and handing instruments/materials to the doctor as directed. + Provides patients with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures. + May operate an x-ray, EKG, or other equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests. + Cleans and sterilizes medical instruments; observes the principles of sterile technique in performing duties. + Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for lab work. + Maintains accurate and complete patient records/documentation. + Orders, stocks, and inventories supplies and assists in performing clerical duties. + Performs related responsibilities as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: + A high school diploma or equivalent. + Positions in this classification may require successful completion of a medical assistant training program. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: + Current phlebotomy certification. + Extensive, recent hands-on experience performing venipuncture and capillary draws in a high-volume setting. + Experiece practicing phlebotomy on a routine basis (beyond initial certification training). + Experience providing phlebotomy services to protected, vulnerable, or high-risk populations or other immunocompromised populations required. + Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality and provide nonjudgmental, stigma-free care. + Ability to maintain compliance with HIPAA and all applicable privacy regulations, demonstrate patience, cultural sensitivity, discretion, and adherence to privacy standards. NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
