Job Description – Medical Assistant
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES
The Medical Assistant (MA) supports CMP providers, staff, and patients by performing clinical and administrative tasks that ensure efficient patient flow and high-quality care. Working under the supervision of the department manager, the MA assists in examinations, procedures, documentation, and communication between patients and the care team. This position requires flexibility, including occasional evening or Saturday shifts and cross-department coverage when needed.

Reports to the Manager or Clinical Supervisor of the assigned department.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Duties
· Prepare examination rooms, ensure cleanliness, and restock supplies.
· Obtain and record patient vital signs and medical history accurately.
· Prepare patients for examination and assist providers during procedures.
· Administer medications and vaccines under provider supervision.
· Perform routine tests such as EKGs, spirometry, and rapid diagnostics.
· Ensure proper documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
· Observe and report any abnormal patient conditions to the provider.
· Maintain infection control and safety protocols at all times.
Administrative Duties
· Schedule and confirm patient appointments as needed.
· Communicate effectively with patients, families, and clinical staff.
· Assist with medication refills, referrals, and prior authorizations.
· Participate in quality improvement initiatives and workflow updates.
· Other duties as assigned by the department manager or provider.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA, CCMA, RMA, NCMA, or NRCMA) required within 3 months of hire.
· BLS/CPR certification required within 90 days of hire.
· Minimum 1 year of direct patient care experience preferred.
· Proficiency in EMR systems (AthenaOne preferred).
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
· Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and basic clinical procedures.
· Ability to perform patient care functions safely and accurately.
· Strong communication and customer service skills.
· Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities in a fast-paced setting.
· Demonstrated teamwork and professionalism.
· Competent in Microsoft Office and electronic medical record systems.
ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
· Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
· Exposure to biohazard materials, chemicals, and infectious diseases.
· Frequent use of computers and telephones requiring manual dexterity and clear communication.
· Must be able to maintain composure in stressful or emergency situations.
