Job Summary: We are seeking a Medical Assistant who will assist the Physicians and Mid Level Providers in; directing patient flow, providing patient care, and providing patient care management in the office setting. This Full-Time Medical Assistant position will report to the Clinical Manager of the assigned department. The ideal candidate will have two years of current and relevant Medical Assistant experience and scribe experience.

 

What You’ll Do (List is not intended to be inclusive of all duties which may be assigned):

 

  • Escorts patients to exam room and assists in documenting the chief clinical complaints.
  • Monitors appointment schedules and assists in the flow of patients through clinic.
  • Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight and height. Reviews patient medications and enters all information into the patient chart/EMR.
  • Prepares exam room and cleans and sterilizes instruments for exams and testing.
  • Educates the patient on phlebotomy and diagnostic testing and performs phlebotomy/testing as directed by the physician according to CLIA and OSHA standards.
  • Ensures that lab reports, testing and other pertinent information is in patient chart at scheduled visit.
  • Collects and reviews laboratory specimens and other testing per MNA policy.
  • Records telephone messages as directed and screens phone calls for appropriate referral to physician.
  • Facilitates the patients obtaining prescriptions when deemed necessary by the Physician/Mid Level Provider.
  • Administers medications as directed by the Physician according to MNA policy.
  • Documents assessments, treatment plans and outcomes as implemented in chart/EMR.
  • Aids in communication and form signing with patient/family/caregivers.
  • Interacts with all departments as deemed necessary by job responsibilities to facilitate quality patient care and productive working relationships.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and Local laws and regulations, the Corporate Compliance Program, Code of Ethics, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.
  • Attends required meetings and/or participates in committees as requested.
  • Must maintain knowledge of current policies and procedures and follow them regularly.
  • Performs all clinical duties while observing OSHA standards.
  • Stocks and orders supplies as necessary.
  • Performs/Participates in professional development activities; maintains professional affiliations.
  • All other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need:

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

  • A High School Diploma or GED required.

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Medical Assistant or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification required.
  • Current BCLS/CPR certification required.

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Two years of current and relevant Medical Assistant experience, preferably in an outpatient, neurology office, and ambulatory care setting preferred but not required.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES  

  • Verbalizes knowledge and/or demonstrates skill in: examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures, medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care, common safety hazards and takes precautions to maintain a safe work environment, assisting in a variety of treatments/procedures and administering medications as directed, taking vital signs, documentation, medical terminology, phlebotomy, maintaining records and recording test results in a legible manner, maintaining MNA quality assurance, ability to react calmly and effectively in emergent or urgent situations, ability to read, understand and respond to detailed oral and/or written instructions and to communicate clearly and effectively, excellent customer-focused interpersonal skills in order to interact/communicate in an effective manner with patients, families and other members of the health care team, ability to work under pressure and concurrently meet customer needs, ability to work autonomously with little direction and be accountable for outcomes.

  • Ability to; read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals,  write routine reports and correspondence, speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization, add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs, apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

WORKPLACE ENVIRONMENT 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to an open office environment. The noise level in the work environment fluctuates; it may be loud in some areas and quiet in others. Requires exposure to: communicable diseases, potentially hazardous bodily fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinical environment.
