Mechanical Systems & Controls Project Engineer

Location: Columbus, OH (South Columbus facility)

Compensation: $85,000 – $120,000 base + 10% bonus

A day in the role

Morning starts with a walk-through of the South Columbus plant, confirming contractors are positioned for a planned outage. You review mechanical layouts, verify tie-in points, and align with operations on the start-up timeline. By midday, you’re validating control interfaces for a new piece of equipment, collaborating with automation and instrumentation teams to ensure safe, reliable operation. The afternoon is spent finalizing vendor bids, tracking spend against budget, and preparing training materials so maintenance and production teams are ready the moment systems go live.

What you’ll own

• Lead mechanical design for capital projects and integrate mechanical equipment with automation, instrumentation, and control systems.
• Select equipment, create system layouts, and support end-to-end system integration.
• Define project scope, solicit and evaluate bids, and direct contractor activities on site.
• Manage schedules, budgets, and overall project expenditure to deliver on time and within plan.
• Plan and coordinate plant outages; support commissioning and start-up of new or upgraded systems.
• Translate project plans for both technical and non-technical stakeholders; ensure clear, ongoing communication.
• Develop training content and operating procedures for newly installed equipment and systems.

Contractors, Operations, Maintenance, Vendors, Purchasing, and EHS—aligning safety, reliability, and performance at every stage.

What you bring

• BS in Mechanical, Chemical, or a closely related Engineering discipline.
• 5+ years leading capital project engineering in a chemical or manufacturing environment (preferred).
• Hands-on experience integrating mechanical systems with automation/controls.
• Strong project management and problem-solving skills.
• Clear, confident communicator across cross-functional teams.
