Position Overview:
We are seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer for a contract-to-direct opportunity with a leading client in the pulp and paper industry, located in the scenic community of Plymouth, North Carolina.

Under the guidance of a Project Manager, the Mechanical Project Engineer will support and sometimes lead the design, development, and execution of mechanical projects involving equipment installations and plant upgrades. You will analyze specifications, determine technical feasibility, and provide hands-on engineering support to operations and maintenance teams. Key Responsibilities:
·Coordinate installation and upgrades of mechanical equipment and facility systems.
·Support development and scope definition for day-to-day and capital projects.
·Evaluate equipment specifications and process requirements for mechanical systems in active manufacturing environments.
·Conduct feasibility assessments for new equipment or modifications, balancing technical and economic considerations.
·Assist with troubleshooting plant equipment and processes, partnering with maintenance and operations teams.
·Lead small-scale mechanical projects involving pump and piping systems, fans, blowers, and structural supports.
·Provide technical guidance and contribute to SOPs, system design reviews, and equipment evaluations.
·Analyze technical proposals, drawings, and manuals to ensure optimal performance and installation practices.
·Perform root cause analysis on equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.
Qualifications:
·Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
·Minimum of 5 years of experience in heavy manufacturing; pulp and paper mill experience strongly preferred.
·Strong project planning and problem-solving skills.
·Experience with mechanical system design and equipment troubleshooting.
·Familiarity with welding practices, structural supports, and quality control techniques.
·Proficiency in project scheduling and documentation tools.
·Excellent communication, leadership, and multitasking abilities.
