Mechanical Engineer (Structural emphasis)

This is an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical or Civil Engineer to join a fast-growing company. We are seeking an inspired individual looking to make a significant impact in a challenging and rewarding field. Apart from mechanical and structural design work, the ideal team member is interested in process, product and personnel development.

The Mechanical Design group is looking for someone that will expand their engineering and design capabilities. The immediate need is for someone experienced with mechanical and structural calculations of steel structures and equipment. Familiarity with fabrication and general arrangement drawings as well as AISC and ASCE7 standards is necessary to perform the required design work. Structural calculations are primarily performed with design tools and RISA-3D. Training will begin immediately. This position offers a lot of potential for growth.

With utilization of modern tools, such as FEA and CFD analysis, and our combined experience in combustion and heater engineering, we offer solutions to the industries toughest challenges.

Minimum Required Experience
  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  2. 3 years of design experience in a relevant field post-degree
  3. Heavy steel structure design familiarity with wind & seismic loadings
  4. Familiarity with design and construction standards such as ASME, AWS, ASTM, ASCE, and AISC
  5. Experience with performing and reporting mechanical/structural calculations
  6. Familiarity with general arrangement drawings, detailed fabrication drawings, demolition drawings, erection drawings, and other drawings typical to the oil and gas industry
  7. Knowledge of industry standard checking procedures and ability to oversee and check design work
  8. Familiarity with industry construction materials, tolerances, codes, specifications and design guidelines
  9. Experience with 3D CAD design software and GA/detailed drawing production from 3D
  10. Experience working independently and in small teams
  11. Desire to learn and problem solve
Desired Experience
  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering
  2. Licensed Professional Engineer
  3. Experience in the oil and gas industry
  4. Wind and seismic design of open and closed frame structures per AISC and ASCE 7
  5. Connection design
  6. Proficiency in RISA-3D and RISAConnection
  7. Programming skills in Excel/VBA
  8. Construction management experience
  9. Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D), SolidWorks, and/or Tekla Structures
  10. Experience with Finite Element Analysis.
Job Functions:
  1. Participate as a member of the Mechanical Design group, focused on expanding the group’s structural capabilities and helping take the company into the future with tools and methodologies that sets it apart from others
  2. Design complex oil and gas equipment, including heavy steel structures such as fired heaters, boilers, auxiliary equipment, and support structures
  3. Perform and check others’ mechanical and/or structural calculations with major focus on heavy steel design per AISC and ASCE 7
  4. Develop design standards and tools to effectively meet project requirements, resolve problems, and continually improve internal design processes
  5. Solve challenging problems that involve investigative problem solving, require clever ingenuity, and demand simultaneous big-picture thinking and small detail precision
  6. Collaborate with sales, execution, process engineering, external manufacturing companies, and customers to understand market needs and constraints while balancing company objectives
  7. Perform field surveys and design work, including: ascertain current equipment conditions, measurement of existing equipment, design superior solutions to complex retrofit challenges, design modifications to existing equipment, communicate with client personnel and direct construction/installation work
  8. Value engineering
  9. Assist customers with product-related questions and participate in field trials
Offers:
  1. An opportunity to help build the engineering company of the future
  2. Diversity in projects, customers, engineering work, cultures and colleagues
