Mechanical Engineer
Elmira, NY

Summary:

Responsible for the design, development, and validation of custom brakes and clutches to meet unique customer requirements. The position collaborates closely with sales, customers, and manufacturing to deliver reliable, high-performance mechanical solutions. The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to manage projects independently from concept through production.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review, analyze, and interpret customer-supplied specifications, applications, and performance requirements to determine the most effective engineering solution.
  • Collaborate with sales teams and customers to clarify technical requirements, operating conditions, and design constraints.
  • Evaluate existing product designs to determine suitability for customer applications and identify opportunities for modification or reuse; develop new designs when existing solutions are insufficient.
  • Create detailed engineering drawings and documentation to support manufacturing and prototyping activities; provide ongoing support and design revisions as required.
  • Define test plans and validation requirements; perform testing to verify product performance, reliability, and compliance with design specifications.
  • Evaluate materials and design concepts through analysis and testing, compiling data to support product development and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Troubleshoot design and performance issues in collaboration with manufacturing and quality teams.
  • Manage individual workload and project timelines independently, demonstrating initiative and accountability with minimal supervision.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to product design, performance, and manufacturability.

Requirements:

  • BSME (or Associates with 5+ years of hands-on experience)
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • Solid understanding of mechanical systems and components.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Experience with PLC systems - programming & troubleshooting (preferred)
