Special Engineer – Genset Packaging (Contract)
Location: Lafayette, IN (Onsite – Plant Building A)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, flexible start/end times
Duration: 12?month contract
Compensation: $30.00–$33.50/hr with medical, dental, vision, and 401k
Hours: 40 hours/week, no overtime

 

Role Overview

This role supports a global Genset Application and Core Packaging team responsible for generator set applications across multiple platforms (typically C7–C175, depending on application). The position is onsite in Lafayette, IN and supports a senior engineer who owns generator set pricelists.

The engineer will assist with pricelist maintenance, configuration accuracy, factory quality topics, and system?level integration activities. This role is best suited for someone who enjoys problem?solving, cross?team coordination, and understanding how configurations and pricing drive orders, rather than deep component design. This is a backfill role with an emphasis on long?term fit and growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Support and maintain generator set pricelists
• Assist with factory quality issues and corrective actions
• Respond to customer service and monitoring inquiries
• Participate in Virtual Design Review Audits (VDRA), supporting L3/L5 issues
• Maintain Engineering Hierarchy Data (EHD), including:
  • Pricing Arrangements (PACN)
  • Prints, order changes, audits, and updates
• Resolve BoM and configuration issues
• Support Technical Construction File (TCF) updates for gas and marine products
• Collaborate with marketing and product definition teams on pricelist updates
• Support continuous improvement and warranty?related projects

Team Environment

Highly collaborative, global team with members in Lafayette (IN), Griffin (GA), India, and China. The team focuses on system integration, configuration accuracy, factory readiness, and meeting customer and market requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Engineering background with strong problem?solving aptitude
• 2–4 years of experience preferred
• Exposure to power generation and/or power distribution systems
• Hands?on experience with Creo and VisMockup
• Familiarity with virtual validation, virtual audits, or VDRA
• Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills
• Willingness to learn Caterpillar?specific tools and processes

Education

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering preferred
• Fresh Master’s graduates considered if interested in this type of role

Preferred Experience

• Generator set exposure
• Design?side engineering experience
• PACN, PLCN, CTS familiarity
• SAP, EOMP, CSQ, or shop change / Green Sheet exposure
• Plant or manufacturing process experience
