The MBT Mechanic Apprentice position is responsible for completing various assignments such as installing, maintaining, repairing, dismantling, and reassembling machinery in an industrial setting. This is a 2nd shift position with the schedule of 4:00pm-2:00am Monday-Thursday.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Master Mechanics to ensure efficient operation of equipment and systems
  • Install, maintain, and repair machinery and mechanical equipment, including pumps, motors, and other equipment
  • Maintain compliance with safety rules, for example lock out, tag out, and arc flash
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks to ensure the efficient operation of building equipment and systems
  • Troubleshoot and repair problems with building systems and equipment
  • Assist with the installation of new equipment and systems
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work performed
  • Ensure that all work is performed in compliance with safety regulations and building codes
  • Participate in training sessions and other learning opportunities to improve skills and knowledge
  • Assist with maintaining inventory of equipment and supplies
  • Ensure that all tools and equipment are properly maintained and stored
  • Perform maintenance related general cleanup of facilities as needed
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of machine operation and/or industrial machine maintenance experience
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication skills
  • Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced Journeymen
  • Ability to work a regular schedule, which may include weekends and holidays
  • Ability to and knowledge in operating small hand power tools
  • Ability to follow established procedures and protocols for completing tasks
  • Ability to work 10 hour shifts, 4 days a week, this can increase to 16 hours depending on process conditions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree or certificate in a related field
  • Prior experience working in facilities maintenance or a related field
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and building codes
  • 1 year or more papermill experience

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to climb ladders and do overhead work
  • Must be able to bend, squat, and complete tasks on the floor
  • Ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools for extended periods of time
