We are looking for a Materials Manager who operates with a high degree of structure, precision, and accountability—someone who can bring discipline to inventory control, purchasing, scheduling, and supplier management in a complex, engineered to order environment. The right individual will be detail driven, analytical, and comfortable owning results in a role where accuracy and follow through directly impact production performance.

Job Details

The Materials Manager is a key leader in our custom HVAC manufacturing environment, responsible for ensuring
the seamless flow of materials to support uninterrupted production.

This role blends tactical execution (such as creating and managing purchase orders, inventory control, and supplier
coordination) with strategic responsibilities in sourcing, production scheduling, and capacity planning. The ideal
candidate will bring expertise in commodity markets, ERP systems, and lean principles to drive efficiency and
continuous improvement in a dynamic, engineered-to-order operation.

We seek a hands-on, detail-oriented professional with strong leadership potential—someone eager to grow into
higher-level roles and help shape the future of our organization.

This position requires a behavioral profile aligned with a Controller type leader: steady, methodical, fact based, and highly reliable. Candidates who thrive in structured environments, follow defined processes, and maintain tight control over data and material flow will be the strongest fit. Profiles that rely heavily on persuasion, flexibility, or high social engagement tend to struggle in this type of work and should be avoided.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Daily
1. Update and maintain daily production schedules to align with material availability.
2. Monitor inventory levels and ensure timely replenishment to support production schedules.
3. Review and approve purchase orders, resolve supplier issues promptly.
4. Coordinate with production and engineering teams to address material shortages or quality concerns.
5. Track inbound shipments and manage receiving/inspections processes.
6. Manage and disposition non-conforming materials in coordination with quality and production teams to

minimize impact on schedules.
Weekly
1. Review capacity plans and adjust production schedules based on demand and resource constraints.
2. Collaborate with operations to forecast short-term material needs.
3. Update ERP system with accurate inventory and procurement data.
4. Hold team meetings to review KPI’s (Inventory turns, on-time delivery, cost savings).

Monthly
1. Conduct monthly capacity planning reviews to ensure alignment with sales forecast and production goals.
2. Analyze inventory trends and adjust safety stock levels
3. Prepare and present monthly cost analysis and material spend reports.
4. Identify and implement process improvements for procurement and inventory management.
5. Conduct supplier performance reviews and address any compliance or delivery issues.
6. Review and update approved supplier list based on performance metrics.
7. Analyze trends in nonconformance and implement corrective actions with suppliers and internal teams.

Yearly
1. Develop long-term production capacity strategies to support growth and scalability.
2. Develop and execute strategic sourcing plans and reduce costs and mitigate supply risk.
3. Negotiate annual contracts and pricing agreements with key suppliers.
4. Lead budgeting and forecasting for material costs.
5. Drive continuous improvement projects aligned with business objectives.
6. Train and develop team members for succession planning and skill enhancement.

  • Conforms to all Quality and Environmental Management Systems policies, objectives, and obligations.
  • Performs any other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Position Requirements:
Education
o Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent work
experience.
o APICS/CPIM or similar certification is preferred.
Experience
o 5+ years in materials management, procurement, or supply chain within a manufacturing environment.
o Experience with commodities such as galvanized sheet metal, copper, and aluminum
o Proven track record in production scheduling and capacity planning.
Technical Skills
o Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar)
o Global Shop Solutions is preferred.
o Strong analytical skills for inventory optimization and cost control.
o Proficiency using Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
o Intermediate Microsoft Excel Skills
o Creating and using Pivot Tables
o VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP formula use
o Conditional formatting and use of basic charts
o Able to use various financial, logical, and lookup reference formulas.
o Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
Leadership & Growth Potential
o Ability to lead a small team and collaborate cross functionally.
o Hands-on- approach with willingness to manage tactical tasks (eg. creating/managing PO’s).
o Demonstrated ambition and capability to grow into higher level leadership roles.
