Job Overview
Manufacturing Design Generalist (Mechanical Systems) is responsible for assisting in the review and redesign of parts and assemblies used in the manufacture of lock and sliding door products.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary job responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Primary work assignment is onsite (95%), split approximately 50/50 between office and manufacturing shop floor environments, with occasional travel/off-site work (5%).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary job responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Collaborates respectfully in a multi-disciplinary team, learning from colleagues and building trust across manufacturing, engineering, and quality.
- Review and redesign of parts or assemblies that have been identified as:
- Complex to manufacture internally due to the design
- Requiring internal rework due to design/tolerance issues
- Currently outsourced but selected to manufacture internally
- Support prototype builds and design validation activities, leveraging additive manufacturing and other appropriate prototyping methods, to ensure the successful implementation of redesigned components
- Apply hands-on knowledge of fabrication processes, including CNC machining, stamping, forming, welding, and investment casting.
- Partner with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and engineering teams to align design intent with real-world process capabilities
- Evaluate and process assigned Engineering Change Notices
- Develop detailed design drawings and specifications for mechanical equipment, dies, tools, and controls, using computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment.
- Mentor designers and drafters in proper design techniques
- Develop and improve processes to ensure the accuracy and proper design of company products.
- Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed.
- Assist in developing new engineering processes to improve design, documentation accuracy, and delivery time.
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering
- 5+ years of experience in engineering design in a manufacturing environment
- 10+ years of experience in engineering design in a manufacturing environment
- Excellent written and oral communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to analyze part and assembly functions
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD
- Experience designing machined, formed, stamped, and investment-cast metal components
- Strong Excel skills with the ability to analyze and interpret manufacturing and quality data
- Ability to create supporting documentation and training guides
- Ability to take in and clarify technical industry-specific information presented in project documentation
- Ability to perform effectively on various computer platforms
- Ability to learn new software tools.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to recognize and prioritize time-sensitive issues
- Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include lifting or other physical activity.
- Ability to pass a physical, drug screening, and background check
- Possession of a valid Driver's License
- Occasional travel
