This role focuses on developing "should-cost models for parts, evaluating manufacturing processes such as casting, machining, and stamping, and managing tooling and capital investments. The ideal candidate will leverage technical expertise and analytical skills to support sourcing decisions, improve manufacturability, and identify cost-saving opportunities across the product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop detailed bottom-up "should-cost models for new and existing components, including materials, labor, and overhead.
Analyze manufacturing processes (casting, machining, stamping, welding, etc.) to determine cost drivers and optimization opportunities.
Evaluate and support tooling and capital investment decisions, including dies, fixtures, and forming tools.
Partner with R&D and design teams to drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and reduce production costs without compromising quality.
Review supplier quotes (RFQs) and compare them against internal cost models to support sourcing and negotiation strategies.
Identify and implement cost-reduction initiatives using Lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
Conduct variance analysis by comparing estimated vs. actual production costs and reporting key discrepancies.
Perform make-or-buy analysis to determine the most cost-effective sourcing approach.
Support cross-functional teams with data-driven insights to improve cost transparency and decision-making.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
3–7 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, cost analysis, or a related discipline.
Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, casting, stamping, welding, and tooling.
Experience with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and cost optimization techniques.
Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Teamcenter), CAD software (e.g., NX), and advanced Excel (pivot tables, data analysis, visualization).
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
Preferred Qualifications:
Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
AACE Certified Cost Professional (CCP) certification.
LEAN manufacturing training or certification.
Experience with advanced manufacturing technologies, including automation or AI-driven processes.
