Manager, People Operations

We’re looking for a Manager, People Operations to lead flawless execution of our core People Operations functions—payroll, benefits, compensation, compliance, and total rewards—while building and managing a small high-performing team that delivers reliably at scale.

This is a hands-on leadership role that operates at the intersection of operational excellence, risk management, employee experience, and people management. You'll own outcomes that directly affect employee trust & culture, regulatory compliance, and service quality across the organization—and you'll do it through your team, not around them.

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL

  • Lead and develop the People Operations team by translating People strategy into clear operating plans, priorities, and performance expectations

  • Own end-to-end execution of payroll, benefits, compensation cycles, Open Enrollment, ROP, and employee support with 100% on-time, accurate delivery

  • Serve as the escalation point for People Ops risk, compliance issues, and employee concerns—driving issues to full, well-documented resolution

  • Run a disciplined operating rhythm with clear KPIs, standard work, quality controls, and regular inspection to keep execution on track

  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying root causes of errors, simplifying workflows, and implementing automation that improves speed and reliability

  • Partner cross-functionally with Legal, Finance, IT, and Talent Development to reduce operational and compliance risk

  • Actively manage team performance—developing high performers, addressing underperformance directly, and maintaining a strong, accountable team culture

  • Ensure all People Operations execution reinforces employee trust, service quality, and client impact

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO THE TEAM

We don't measure candidates by résumé alone. We're looking for people who hold themselves to a standard most don't, take feedback as fuel, and are wired to own their results. We're looking for an experienced HR leader with deep functional expertise, strong judgment, and a track record of building teams that execute reliably in complex environments. Prior HR leadership experience is required.

  • You've led HR or People Operations teams and delivered sustained, error-free execution through others. You've set the operating standard, built accountability into your team's rhythm, and can point to measurable improvements in quality, accuracy, or efficiency that you drove—not just participated in.

  • You have deep, applied expertise across payroll, benefits, compensation, and HR compliance. Multi-state environments, Open Enrollment, ROP cycles, total rewards governance—these aren't new territory for you.

  • You make sound decisions under pressure and own them. You balance speed with thoroughness, anticipate downstream consequences, and don't wait for someone else to resolve a problem that lands in your domain.

  • You manage performance directly and consistently. You give honest feedback, address underperformance early, invest in your high performers, and build teams where accountability is the norm—not the exception.

  • You're operationally curious and always looking to improve. You question the status quo, simplify what's unnecessarily complex, and follow through on changes until they actually stick.

IS THIS ROLE RIGHT FOR YOU?

We want you to walk in with clear eyes, so here's an honest look at what this role is — and what it isn't.

This is a deeply operational, execution-driven role centered on payroll, benefits, compensation, compliance, and risk ownership at scale. It's not a strategic advisory or policy-only HR position, and it's not an individual contributor role. Success here means building accountability and consistency through a team—setting clear expectations, inspecting the work, and managing performance when standards aren't met.

The environment is fast-paced and high-stakes. You'll regularly navigate escalations, regulatory complexity across multiple states, sensitive employee matters, and cross-functional dependencies. Policies evolve, compliance landscapes shift, and not every situation comes with a clear answer—this role requires someone who's comfortable making well-reasoned calls in gray areas and moving forward with confidence even when the rulebook is still being written. The right person here leads with care for employees and a strong instinct to protect the business—and understands that both matter equally. Sound judgment in this role means being fair, empathetic, and clear-eyed about business impact all at once

WORK LOCATION

We welcome applications from candidates based in Hawaii, who would work a hybrid schedule (in-office Tuesday–Thursday, remote Monday & Friday).

COMPENSATION

The base compensation for this position is $117,000.00 – $140,000.00 per year depending on experience and qualifications.
