The Exercise Physiology Manager, as part of the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Department is involved in all aspects of patient care including; administers cardiopulmonary exercise assessments, monitors Cardiopulmonary and Wellness patient exercise and develops exercise treatment plans for patients with chronic diseases that include but are not limited to cardiovascular, bariatric and pulmonary disorders. In this role, the Wellness Coordinator also recognizes and responds appropriately to emergency situations that may arise. This position also attends to all departmental administrative duties relating to operational budget, policy development, and program performance including supervision of all Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation staff.
Responsibilities:- Performs daily medical monitoring of Phase II Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab patients including ECG, BP, RPE, and Oxygen Saturation checks. Creates daily session reports for Phase II Cardiac Rehab patients.
- Provides daily supervision of Phase III Wellness patients including but not limited to periodic BP and HR measures and exercise coaching and guidance.
- Assists Registered Nurses and RRT as directed in stabilizing patients in emergency or potential emergency situations; assists in emergency situations including interacting with RN’s, RRT’s, Physicians and EMS.
- Participates in and oversees patient registration and insurance verification by communicating with business office and patients as necessary. Oversees and performs patient billing for Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab and Wellness patients.
- Participates in delivering group and individual education to Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab and Bariatric patients.
- Maintains all clinical and exercise equipment per department and hospital standards.
- Oversees and creates monthly Individualized Treatment Plans for Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab patients including sending reports to referring physicians and following-up on physician signatures to meet compliance standards. Performs Discharge ITP’s on patients who have graduated from programs.
- Oversees data collection, and analysis of Cardiopulmonary Rehab outcomes, monitoring of report compliance and other criteria to ensure Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab Program readiness for AACVPR re-certification every 3 years.
- Oversees all operational aspects of the Wellness Center including Environmental, Engineering and Biomedical services needed.
- Responsible for maintaining appropriate levels of all supplies for clinic.
- Oversees and is responsible for coordinating the schedule for group exercise classes in the multipurpose room including Yoga, Tai-Chi, Balance and Smoking Cessation classes and all other educational offerings including support groups.
- Performs One-on-one counseling of Bariatric patients during the weekly clinical office day including all documentation of counseling. Works with and coordinates duties with Nutritionist, Nurse Practitioner and Physician as needed to meet the needs of the bariatric patients and office. Follows-up with tele-health counseling when appropriate if unable to meet in person with patients in the office on clinical office days.
- Serves as a featured speaker of the Bariatric Support Group once a year. Delivers a presentation on the Exercise Guidelines followed by a group discussion in the Wellness Center, or virtually as needed. Coordinates with the Director of Bariatric Program.
- Supervises exercise for Bariatric Patients in the Flagler Hospital Wellness Center during regular Wellness hours.
- Provides Pre-operative and Post-operative teaching and exercise counseling for Bariatric patients. Provides coaching for exercise and diet planning. Educates patients on behavior modification techniques to include smoking cessation and adherence to medication.
- Maintains records reflecting up-to-date participant progress, programs and related statistical data as required by departmental policies; evaluates collected data and provide reports to the department director.
- Oversees development of policies and procedures related to clinical education programs and quality assurance.
- Assists in fiscal management of the unit through inventory control, patient charging and statistical analysis.
Education / Training
- Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Physiology or Physical Therapy
and/or
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
and/or
- Bachelor’s Degree in Allied Health Discipline
Preferences:
Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology
Experience Requirements
- 5 to 7 years Rehab Services
- 1-year Leadership/Supervisor in related clinical area
Certificates/Licenses/Registration
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
