Position Summary:
Guides the maintenance and production activities on a designated shift in a safe and efficient manner to achieve the desired quality, quantity and timely maintenance of all production machinery/equipment, physical plant, utilities and grounds in accordance with federal, state and local regulations and company policies. Serves as back-up to the production and maintenance teams in the event of any absences of the leadership team.
Supervisory Responsibility:
Directly supervises employees in the maintenance and production areas. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and results of the shift during a designated shift. Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling and appraising employees; planning, assigning and directing work; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints/grievances and resolving problems
Responsibilities:· Oversees shift activities through the supervision of employees to ensure the shift’s maintenance and production objectives are accomplished.
· Coordinates the preventative maintenance program on the designated shift to maintain production equipment and alarm systems in an efficient, safe operating condition.
· Coordinates the operation and maintenance of steam, electrical, gas, water, and refrigerated service during the designated shift.
· Coordinates shift activities with outside vendors on projects, repairs or maintenance.
· Oversees shift inventories of supplies, spare parts, maintenance materials and repair parts and directs Parts Coordinator’s work tasks.
· Controls and minimizes the shift’s overtime labor costs, maintenance/repair costs, and equipment downtime.
· Oversees corrections and running adjustments of equipment to maximize production capabilities during shift.
· Coordinates shift changeovers of equipment or preventative maintenance according to production schedules.
· Ensures compliance to all federal, state and local laws and company policies.
· Provides training, direction, development, evaluation, coaching and leadership to employees in production and maintenance.
· Maintains company standards for cleanliness, safety, and productivity in the maintenance area.
· Maintains good employee, corporate and community relations.
· Coordinates with other department managers and supervisors to ensure proper purchasing, processing, packaging, quality assurance, accounting and inventory control activities and procedures.
· Ensures compliance to quality, food safety, 5S, OSHA and HACCP support programs; assures conformity to all company, customer and government standards.
· Completes and maintains shift paperwork including updates to SAP reports, end of shift reports, and PM schedules.
· Manage department costs including OT scheduling
· Serve as a qualified individual as part of the plant’s Food Safety Plan, including monitoring and verification activities related to process control and preventative control measures.
· Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:· 2 years minimum maintenance/group leader experience in a manufacturing environment
· Prior food/consumables manufacturing experience preferred with a working knowledge of GMPs and Food Safety Standards.
· Working knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment and functions.
· Strong technical/computer skills
· Prior experience working with SAP preferred
· High school graduate or equivalent; technical training courses or technical school background preferred
Working Conditions/Environment:Works in a manufacturing environment where the employee is regularly required to speak, read, sit, stand, walk, climb, crouch, lift, reach, grasp and bend while moving about the facility. Must be able to move 75 pounds a distance of 25 feet or more at various frequencies and or intervals. Must be able to stand for an 8 – 10 hour shift (sometimes longer) with regular breaks while performing repetitive tasks. May be required to work overtime and/or weekends as needed. The employee may be exposed to non-ambient temperatures, odors, dust, oil, slippery floors, moving parts/equipment. The noise level is loud in the plant. Ear protection, eye/face protection, hair/beard nets, steel-toed/slip-resistant shoes, and gloves are required as necessary in accordance with company GMP and safety standards.
