Job Description:

Position Summary:

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing all maintenance activities within the manufacturing facility, including extrusion and converting operations for plastic retail bag production. This role ensures the reliability, efficiency, and safety of plant equipment and systems through proactive maintenance strategies, timely repairs, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Maintenance Manager leads a team of technicians, coordinates preventive and predictive maintenance programs, and collaborates with production leadership to minimize downtime and optimize equipment performance. This position plays a critical role in supporting operational goals, compliance with safety and environmental standards, and driving cost-effective maintenance solutions.

 

Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities:

This position will be responsible for a 24 x 7 operation at our Richmond, VA plant housing 12 Extrusion machines, 12 Bag Machines, Printing Presses, and all secondary and support equipment. This position requires hands on proactive leadership, strategic direction, and technical support to the operations of the facility including preventive/predictive maintenance, automation, process, and cost improvement.

· Responsible for overseeing 24 x 7 maintenance team who maintain all electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical functions of all major and auxiliary equipment.

· Partner closely with the Operations Managers and assign the proper personnel to troubleshoot and repair for efficient and continuous operations.

· Analyze, implement, and track preventative maintenance programs for the entire facility, including an inventory system for parts and supplies.

· Develop annual budgets and successfully deliver results.

· Initiate and manage large capital projects for timeliness and budget adherence.

· Develop mid and long-range plans to improve machine uptime, reliability and OEE.

· Develop and execute routine preventative maintenance program for all assets on our campus. This will be accomplished utilizing both internal and external resources.

· Manage outside subcontractors and resources as needed.

· Develop mid and long-term succession plan regarding replacement of major equipment.

· Manage all interior and exterior support systems within the facilities including HVAC, fire alarms, electrical, plumbing and security utilizing internal and external resources.

· Provide leadership, training, mentoring and direction to the maintenance personnel. Inspire high performance through effective goal setting and performance measurement.

· Design, implement and institutionalize “best practice” quick change procedures, processes, and equipment modifications (SMED).

· Responsible for the continuous reduction in waste, downtime, setup/make ready, and cost.

· Establish a collaborative working relationship with partnering operations teams and respective business units.

· Initiate, write, manage, and lead the process for capital expenses.

· Construct, evaluate and report maintenance and engineering results for the facility.

· Key member of the audit team to prepare the facility for multiple annual customer audits.

 

Requirements:

· Resourceful problem solver with proven analytical troubleshooting ability to bring quick resolution to challenging situations. Utilizing RC and PCA tools such as DMAIC, 8D etc.

· High school degree required, secondary education and/or leadership training preferred

· Minimum 6 years industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing facility.

· Minimum 5 years employee management skills required.

· Process cooling chillers, and hydraulics experience is preferred.

· Computer systems knowledge including experience with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook). Maximo would be advantageous.

· Effective verbal and written communication skills to all levels of management and employees, bilingual is a plus.
