Job Summary: The general purpose of this position is to oversee maintenance to ensure that production equipment is operating at full capacity and that the building and grounds are in an orderly condition. Also supervises and maintains the waste water treatment plant. Principal Duties: 1. Monitors machines and mechanical equipment to ensure operating at maximum efficiency. Diagnoses any source of trouble and ensures that repairs are completed in a timely and cost effective manner. 2. Aid in the development and implementation of Food Safety Fundamentals and Food Safety Plan as outlined in the SQF 2000 system. 3. Has the authority to take appropriate action to ensure the integrity of the SQF 2000 system. 4. Supervises workers in the Maintenance Department, including interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling and completing evaluations. Recommends methods to motivate workers to achieve goals. Recommends personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, discharges and disciplinary measures. Acts in accordance with established grievance procedures. 5. Develops practices and procedures to follow in order to prevent equipment breakdowns and monitors adherence to such practices and procedures. Performs preventative maintenance duties on an ongoing basis. 6. Confers with production managers and plant manager to analyze needs for new equipment. Recommends measures to improve existing equipment performance. 7. Produces monthly report to management detailing condition of equipment. 8. Responsible for all machinery parts and tools. Orders replacement parts at lowest price possible. 9. Assures safety rules are followed on all repair jobs. 10. Supervises and maintains waste water treatment plant. Assures that waste and sludge is removed. 11. Maintains order within the department and monitors building and grounds to ensure everything kept orderly and in good repair. 12. Reviews quotations from outside contractors, equipment manufacturers and machinery manufacturers for major repairs and replacement. 13. Utilizes summer shutdown to overall heavy equipment. 14. Performs other duties as required. Principal Contracts: Frequent interaction with plant and production management and other personnel in the production department for the purpose of exchanging information regarding maintenance needs. Position Requirements: 1. Strong aptitude for repairing equipment and machinery. 2. Minimum of 5 years experience as maintenance manager in order to have a significant knowledge of machinery, equipment and tools needed to repair them. 3. Ability to supervise employees effectively. 4. Strong oral communication skills needed to direct employees and communicate problems to management. 5. Good organizational skills required to plan work flow. 6. Ability to extend work day as needed. 7. Ability to maneuver on wet, slippery floors. Ability to lift heavy objects. 8. Ability to maintain pleasant working relationship with staff and management.
