Maintenance Helper

A Maintenance Helper in a fabrication shop supports the upkeep, repair, and smooth operation of shop equipment, tools, and facilities. This role is essential in maintaining a safe, efficient, and organized work environment for welders, fabricators, and other shop personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with routine maintenance and minor repairs on fabrication equipment such as welding machines, grinders, saws, and forklifts
• Perform basic troubleshooting and report mechanical issues to maintenance technicians or supervisors
• Help set up and break down equipment for daily operations and special projects
• Maintain cleanliness of the shop, including sweeping, removing scrap materials, and organizing tools and supplies
• Assist in inventory tracking of maintenance supplies, parts, and consumables
• Follow safety procedures and ensure compliance with shop and OSHA standards
• Support preventative maintenance schedules to minimize downtime
• Handle material movement using hand tools or equipment as needed

Skills & Qualifications:

• Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand and power tools
• Willingness to learn fabrication equipment and maintenance procedures
• Ability to follow instructions and work in a team environment
• Strong attention to safety and detail
• Physical ability to lift heavy materials, stand for long periods, and work in a shop environment
• Prior experience in a fabrication or industrial setting is a plus but not always required

Work Environment:

• Industrial fabrication shop with exposure to noise, dust, heat, and heavy machinery
• Requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toe boots
