Maintenance Helper
A Maintenance Helper in a fabrication shop supports the upkeep, repair, and smooth operation of shop equipment, tools, and facilities. This role is essential in maintaining a safe, efficient, and organized work environment for welders, fabricators, and other shop personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with routine maintenance and minor repairs on fabrication equipment such as welding machines, grinders, saws, and forklifts
- Perform basic troubleshooting and report mechanical issues to maintenance technicians or supervisors
- Help set up and break down equipment for daily operations and special projects
- Maintain cleanliness of the shop, including sweeping, removing scrap materials, and organizing tools and supplies
- Assist in inventory tracking of maintenance supplies, parts, and consumables
- Follow safety procedures and ensure compliance with shop and OSHA standards
- Support preventative maintenance schedules to minimize downtime
- Handle material movement using hand tools or equipment as needed
Skills & Qualifications:
- Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand and power tools
- Willingness to learn fabrication equipment and maintenance procedures
- Ability to follow instructions and work in a team environment
- Strong attention to safety and detail
- Physical ability to lift heavy materials, stand for long periods, and work in a shop environment
- Prior experience in a fabrication or industrial setting is a plus but not always required
Work Environment:
- Industrial fabrication shop with exposure to noise, dust, heat, and heavy machinery
- Requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toe boots
