Duration: 12 months with a possibility of extension.
Mainframe Performance & Capacity / Tunning:
Performance Engineering & Monitoring
• Monitor and analyze system performance indicators across z/OS, subsystems (CICS, IMS, DB2, MQ), and batch/online workloads.
• Identify performance bottlenecks and implement corrective actions to improve throughput and response times.
• Conduct periodic health checks and provide performance dashboards, reports, and trend analyses.
Capacity Planning & Forecasting
• Perform short- and long-term capacity planning, ensuring adequate CPU, memory, storage, and network resources.
• Develop models and forecasts based on business growth, seasonality, and workload projections.
• Provide recommendations for hardware upgrades, software optimization, and resource allocation strategies.
System & Application Tuning
• Tune system parameters to optimize performance for z/OS and related subsystems.
• Collaborate with application teams to tune JCL, SQL, COBOL programs, and transaction processing workloads.
• Optimize batch processing windows and workload scheduling to improve system efficiency.
Incident & Problem Management
• Act as SME during major incidents involving performance degradation or system saturation.
• Conduct root-cause analysis for recurring performance issues.
• Provide technical guidance and recommendations to prevent incident recurrence.
Tools & Automation
• Use mainframe performance tools such as RMF, SMF, OMEGAMON, TMON, MainView, Strobe, or equivalent.
• Develop and enhance automation scripts for performance data extraction and analysis.
• Maintain capacity and performance dashboards using enterprise monitoring tools.
Collaboration & Governance
• Work with architecture and infrastructure teams to design scalable and resilient mainframe solutions.
• Participate in technology roadmaps, platform modernization, and cost optimization initiatives.
• Provide performance related input during change management, release planning, and application onboarding.
Required Qualifications:
• Strong experience with z/OS mainframe environments, including JES2/JES3, WLM, RACF, and core subsystems.
• Proficiency in analyzing SMF/RMF data and interpreting system performance metrics.
• Hands on experience with performance and tuning tools (e.g., OMEGAMON, Strobe, TMON, RMF Monitor III).
• Solid understanding of MIPS/MSU consumption, workload classification, and WLM policies.
• Experience in capacity modeling and forecasting methodologies.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and diagnostic skills.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts in a clear and concise manner.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience tuning DB2, CICS, IMS, or MQ subsystems.
• Knowledge of mainframe cost optimization (e.g., Tailored Fit Pricing / R4HA).
• Familiarity with DevOps practices in mainframe environments.
• Experience supporting mission critical, high availability workloads.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
