Mainframe Application Developer (COBOL / DB2 / CICS)

CTG is seeking to fill a Mainframe Application Developer (COBOL / DB2 / CICS) position for our client.
Location: Atlanta, GA
Duration: 12 months
Duties:
- Design, develop, test, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, DB2, and CICS
- Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications
- Develop and support batch processing systems, including job scheduling and JCL scripting
- Perform debugging, troubleshooting, and performance tuning of existing applications
- Support legacy system enhancements while enabling integration with modern platforms
- Participate in mainframe modernization initiatives, including migration to cloud and hybrid (z-cloud) environments
- Develop APIs, microservices, and integration layers to connect mainframe systems with distributed applications
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including QA, DevOps, and business stakeholders
- Ensure system reliability, scalability, and security compliance
- Document technical designs, processes, and code changes
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of COBOL, JCL, and mainframe utilities
- Experience with DB2, VSAM, and CICS
- Understanding of batch processing and job scheduling
- Familiarity with debugging, performance tuning, and system optimization
- Experience working with legacy systems and modern integration frameworks
- Exposure to modernization technologies such as Java, JSON, APIs, and microservices
- Knowledge of DevOps practices, containerization (e.g., Kubernetes), and cloud platforms
- Understanding of WebSphere, MQ, and distributed system integration
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities
Experience:
- Proven experience in mainframe application development using COBOL, DB2, and CICS
- Hands-on experience with mainframe modernization and migration strategies
- Experience integrating mainframe systems with cloud or distributed environments
- Familiarity with secure application development and enterprise system architecture
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group are required.
