Job Summary

Operate CNC Lathe production machines working from blueprints, sketches, and route sheets. Contribute to lean initiatives to increase productivity and reduce costs. Work with general guidance in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and run production machines. Perform machine operations such as cutting, shaping, deburring, forming, drilling, and reaming parts, where the materials, tooling, and sequence of operations have been pre-planned and established. Make necessary machine adjustments and report improper functioning or cutting action for correction.
  • Perform operations such as tapping, spot-facing, chamfering, countersinking, and counterboring to close tolerances.
  • Align and fasten parts using standard fixtures and established methods.
  • Adjust feeds, speeds, and depth of cut to machine quality parts, per documentation.
  • Remove burrs, sharp edges, tool marks, or other irregularities from machined parts. Burring operations involve general production parts ranging from the simplest to the more complex.
  • Inspect parts for conformance to specifications using measuring instruments, gauges, and comparators. Use various types of magnification equipment to detect and avoid damage to surfaces and critical areas. Visually inspect parts for burrs and damaged machined surfaces.
  • Routinely maintain equipment to ensure cleanliness, accuracy, and reliability specific to division requirements.
  • Accurately and regularly perform all statistical process control (SPC) specific to division requirements.
  • Actively participate in lean initiatives by identifying and providing suggestions on areas for improvement. Apply lean concepts and tools in the work area.
  • Observe all company policies and procedures, including safety rules, and maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Perform other related responsibilities, as requested.

Qualifications

  • Two years of related machining experience.
  • Able to read and follow blueprints, specifications, and verbal instructions.
  • Working knowledge of machine shop mathematics, which may include trigonometry.
  • Effectively apply lean initiatives.
  • Demonstrate effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Interpret reports and use job-specific software applications. Able to use employee self-service systems to access online information and use specialized automated systems (i.e., PMR, TORS, email).
  • Effectively demonstrate team member competencies and participate in goal setting, performance feedback, and self-development activities.
  • One year of product support or related experience or demonstrated ability to perform described position responsibilities.
  • General knowledge of computer terminal operations.
  • May be required to operate moving equipment and saw equipment and meet OSHA safety qualifications.
  • May require forklift operator certificate.
  • Must demonstrate manual dexterity.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to read and understand related forms and specifications.
  • May be required to lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Must demonstrate effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with others and be a participative team player.

Shift Details

  • 2nd Shift: 3:30 PM - 12:00 AM
  • Swing Shift: 11:00 AM - 8:00 PM
