Join Our Team as a Locum Physician in Hematology Oncology – Coos Bay, OR
Are you an experienced Hematology-Oncology specialist seeking a flexible, impactful opportunity? Bay Area Hospital is looking for a dedicated Locum Physician to provide critical outpatient care at a leading cancer center. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful difference in patient lives while enjoying a collaborative and supportive environment.
Responsibilities include functioning as a vital member of the clinical team, performing procedures aligned with your training and licensure, and managing outpatient oncology and hematology cases. The position primarily involves outpatient care in a stand-alone cancer center using the EPIC EMR system, with inpatient coordination when necessary. The schedule is flexible, with 4 or 5 days per week, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, including occasional admin days. You will be part of a small, expert team of three physicians, managing 10-15 outpatient patients daily and handling inpatient chemotherapy patients during hospital admissions. The call schedule involves 7 days of call over 4 weeks, with a 1:4 call ratio, including one weekend.
Key Requirements:
- Current Medical License and Board Certification in Hematology and Oncology
- Proven experience managing outpatient cancer care
- Familiarity with EPIC EMR preferred
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced outpatient setting
Nice to Have:
- Experience with benign hematology referrals
- Prior exposure to radiation oncology teams
- Additional certifications in oncology or hematology subspecialties
Preferred Education & Experience:
- Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution
- Active state medical license in Oregon
- At least 2 years of post-residency clinical experience in hematology/oncology
Additional Requirements:
- Credentialing process estimated at 6-8 weeks
- Completion of 4 hours of unpaid EPIC training
- Ability to travel to Coos Bay, OR; lodging will be coordinated and provided
- Must carry appropriate malpractice insurance, including coverage for locum tenens work
- Flexibility to cover assigned shifts, including some weekends and call rotations
