Join Our Team as a Locum Nurse Practitioner – General Medicine VA and Make a Difference in Veterans’ Lives
VHS is seeking highly skilled and dedicated Nurse Practitioners in General Medicine to provide essential Compensation & Pension exams and Separation Health Assessments for our nation's Veterans. This vital role offers flexible scheduling, the opportunity to serve veterans across multiple locations in Virginia, and competitive compensation. Required Skills:
- Valid Nurse Practitioner license with current state certification
- Experience in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery, or general medicine
- Strong interview and physical assessment skills, including range of motion and muscle strength testing
- Ability to perform non-treatment exams independently and efficiently
- Excellent communication and documentation abilities
- Attention to detail and adherence to documentation guidelines
Nice to Have Skills:
- Prior experience with Compensation & Pension evaluations
- Familiarity with VA services or government contracting procedures
- Certification in additional specialties or credentials relevant to veteran assessments
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing (DNP, MSN)
- Minimum of 2 years clinical experience in internal medicine, family practice, or related fields
- Previous work in veterans’ healthcare or disability evaluations is a plus
Other Requirements:
- Own office location(s) in VA to conduct examinations
- Willingness to work PRN, on a flexible schedule, with options for half or full-day shifts
- Ability to complete exams and submit reports promptly
- Travel reimbursements included within rates; no additional reimbursements for certifications or portal training
- Must pass credentialing and onboarding processes quickly
Competitive hourly pay rate of $402.00, with flat rates for exams: $600 for half-day shifts (up to 4 hours) and $1200 for full-day shifts (5+ hours). A one-time bonus of $650 is offered upon completion of training and your first exams. Local candidates in VA only; travel costs are covered within the rates.
