Overview
As a Locum Nurse Practitioner in General Medicine, you will play a vital role in conducting Compensation & Pension exams and Separation Health Assessments for Veterans. Your expertise will help ensure veterans receive the care and benefits they deserve. The position offers flexible working hours, remote or in-office options, and the chance to work in a supportive environment focused on excellence. Whether you're seeking full-days or half-days, this role allows you to maintain work-life balance while making a meaningful impact.
Required Skills
- Valid Advanced Practice Nurse license in Texas (or eligible for licensure)
- Proven experience in general medicine, family medicine, or internal medicine
- Strong assessment skills, including physical exams and interview-based evaluations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to adhere to strict guidelines and complete documentation accurately and promptly
- Comfortable working independently or within a team setting
Nice to Have Skills
- Prior experience with Compensation & Pension assessments or veteran care
- Certification in specialties such as Orthopedic Surgery or related fields
- Knowledge of veterans' healthcare protocols and procedures
- Experience working with government or military health programs
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) or higher from an accredited institution
- Minimum of 2 years clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner in general medicine or related fields
- Previous experience in assessment clinics or veteran healthcare is advantageous
Other Requirements
- Ability to work in Houston, TX, with a reliable workspace (preferably own office) within 50 miles of the city
- Must complete all required licensing, credentialing, and onboarding processes promptly
- Willingness to perform contractual assessments on a PRN basis, 4-hour or 8-hour shifts
- Availability to start on March 6, 2026
Compensation for this role is highly competitive, with flat rates of $600 for half-day shifts and $1200 for full-day shifts. A one-time bonus of $650 is offered upon completion of initial training and first exams. Travel and licensure reimbursements are provided where applicable.
